Abdul El-Sayed's "weird friends" didn't beat up 100+ cops while trashing the U.S. Capitol. JD Vance's "weird friends" did.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Q: Is El-Sayed a jihadist like President Trump said yesterday? JD VANCE: Well look, he certainly has a lot of weird friends

JD Vance wants us to think Alaska voters are too "busy" to read the word "incumbent" when they vote.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Q: Why shouldn't Alaskans find it insulting that the administration is suggesting they can't read the word 'incumbent' on their ballot and know to vote for Sen. Sullivan? JD VANCE: People are busy. People have lives. People have jobs.

Damn good question.

I emailed Patrick Healy, assistant managing editor for standards and trust at NYT, to ask why their story about a House report with new details of rape allegations against the President of the United States included neither those details, nor a single use of the word "rape." archive.is/1s9AM

Pretty wild: Even some MAGA figures are now panicking about the early vote. And for good reason: The electorate is 11 points more Dem than at this point in 2024, and Latino vote is surging. On the pod @simonwdc.bsky.social is very illuminating on what the data shows: newrepublic.com/article/2171...

newrepublic.comAngry Trump Unravels as Brutal New Early-Voting Data Rattles Even MAGAAs some MAGA data analysts panic about the early vote, Democratic strategist Simon Rosenberg parses what we can learn from them—and ponders what could still go wrong.

Some folks are probably sick of me posting this video in which I go toe-to-toe with NY Times assistant managing editor Patrick Healy about the Times coverage of the rise of MAGA fascism. But since Margaret Sullivan cited it prominently in her new piece, here it is.

The Trump regime has made the U.S. into a sad joke to the rest of the world. Slamming other cultures doesn’t change that.

Trump’s bid to steal a DC public park and turn it into an elitist golf course has been blocked. When many institutions kowtow to the dictator, federal district courts are holding the line.

For the last month, I've been posting examples of Trump's authoritarianism that I call "Dictator Move of the Day." If you search that phrase, you'll see that the fascist president is constantly trying to undermine our democracy. I'm going to keep doing these posts. We've got to stop him.

Anyone else deeply ashamed of our country for allowing a convicted felon, pathological liar, serial abuser of women, and traitor to seize power? Ready to fight back? Vote against all Republicans.

Trump has a rally tonight in Mississippi, in case you're wondering how things are shaping up for Republicans

It’s peak Trumpism when Republicans blow up a school full of Iranian Muslim girls and then call an American politician a terrorist because he’s Muslim.

Encouraging sign that Democrats will play hardball if they win the midterms.

NEWS --> Dems are planning novel ways to wield power of the purse against Trump's corrupt prosecutions of critics like Ilhan Omar if they win House. Reps Pramila Jayapal and Jamie Raskin tell me a range of aggressive tactics will be deployed. Details in my new piece: newrepublic.com/article/2171...

This post 6 months ago should have ended support for Trump among Christians, but far too many of them don't mind blasphemy if it comes with a side order of racism and sexism.

Going through old notes today, I was reminded that the NY Times' Peter Baker wrote in January that Trump had "changed the definition of normal." It helps us understand NYT's shortcomings when we realize it accepts the idea that Trump gets to decide what's normal.

Smart move by Mike Rogers' staff to set up his earpiece so it mutes any reference to Trump.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

WELKER: Is a vote for you a vote for the Trump agenda? MIKE ROGERS: Um, I'm apologizing. I'm having some difficultly in my earpiece. But is a vote for you? I'm not sure. I'll tell you what a vote for me is. It's a great day for the state of Michigan

Trump detests the free enterprise system. He believes in a Soviet-style command economy with total government control. He favors foreign trade based on bribery. He opposes competition. That's why, when a foreign country like Taiwan manufactures a product, Trump says they're "stealing" our business.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "Look, if we had smart presidents, the Taiwan problem with China wouldn't exist. Nobody would care. They stole our chip business. All of it. 100 percent."

More than a decade ago, Trump promised to fix a broken health care system. But he never came up with a plan. Now he's saying it's the best in the world. He simply skipped the "fix it" part.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "We have the best healthcare plans in the world. Now it doesn't cover everybody, but it covers a lot of people."

Todd Blanche wants us to shove the Jan. 6 insurrection into a vault as ancient history alongside the Tilden-Hayes Compromise of 1877. But it was only 5 years ago that Trump tried to steal an election!

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

BASH: The worry is that we end up in a situation where President Trump tries to overturn the election and the result of that could be like what we saw after January 6-- BLANCHE: Stop it! You gotta stop it with that! That's crazy BASH: This is a president who has a history

Blanche is not the people's attorney general. He's Trump's fascist enforcer.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

BASH: What's the crime? AG TODD BLANCHE: What's the crime? Well it depends. There *could* be a crime. But the real wrong here is that Alaskans are gonna be confused. BASH: The Alaskan Supreme Court ruled 4 months ago on this matter

The evolution of JD Vance’s political mindset, in 4 steps: 1. This guy Trump seems like Hitler. 2. He sure is popular. 3. I want to be popular too. 4. I want to be Hitler too.

First off, thanks to the NY Times for writing a story about Trump weaponizing the Justice Department to assault our election system. Secondly, why can’t NYT say things more directly? Do normal people know what “unmediated executive power” means? Please stop writing in code.

Do yourself a favor and watch a bunch of these Obama clips from his rally today in Ohio. He is on fire, just the energy we need.
