Let's talk a little more about Margaret Hamilton because she deserves it In 1961, Margaret Hamilton was tackling massive systems, having previously wrangled room-sized computers that blared like a foghorn whenever they crashed.

So there I was, right, protecting the world from devastation, you know? Uniting all people within our nation? And these two idiots come by, denouncing the evils of truth and love like they own the place. And I'm like, if you really want to extend your reach, do it from the stars above, not here.

For the Love of Language I love studying languages. Learning a new language takes time, and sometimes we assume we should be better at it. But learning to communicate with new groups helps us to understand and connect with the people around us.

Have you seen the new /pulls view on GitHub, yet? If you opt in to the new experience, your pull requests get WAY more organized, with everything from custom views to collapsible sections to filtering by org and repo.

oh, nothing, just me feeling the crushing weight of adulthood

Jason Lengstorf@jason.energy

sometimes I find photos of myself and wonder what I was thinking about that made me pull this face. I look like I'm barely holding it together 😅

We've been discussing this at work too. We all have AI tools we can talk to, if I want to talk to a human it's because I want a human conversation.

Katie Mack@astrokatie.com

I don't know how anyone else feels about this, but to me, sharing a screenshot of chatbot output to make a point of some kind is an excellent way to undermine any credibility that might otherwise be granted to you in the context of whatever you're trying to say.

More context on this #Artemis II image: * This is the night side, lit by moonlight. You can see city lights in Spain & Portugal, & a sliver of day at lower right * The Sun is entirely behind Earth, which makes it a kind of solar eclipse, but w/ Earth doing the eclipsing instead of the Moon: ☀️🌍🚀🌕

Pulling out and connecting weird lil details until they provide an interesting picture is more interesting than a top-level summary that's the average of what everyone has ever said

Michael Schulman@michaelschulman.bsky.social

I don't need a summary of what's available online, in biographies, or even in my own notes. I need to comb through and find the great details, decide what interests ME. No, it's not efficient. It's slow and painstaking. But I don't believe in efficiency as an ultimate good, especially in writing. /

If you haven’t done what you should have done years ago, get tf off of Vercel

Look mom! Another reason to stop using Vercel. vercel.com/legal/terms#... (Is this even legal?)

When I role played as the computer at my starship bridge simulator job (we did Star Trek simulations for 5th and 6th graders), I would never use pronouns. “That is not a function of this computer.” “This vessel is under attack.” Etc. It helps keep the players as the main characters.

Bonnie Schulkin@bonnie.dev

YES. And the LLM should not use the pronoun "I" either. It is not an "I". It is not a being.

I am deeply aware I lucked out in career and spouse and spend a lot of time paying forward the luck, because why are we here if not to try to make the lives of others better.

Do you ever say to yourself, "This is not my beautiful house, this is not my beautiful wife"?

Alysa Liu telling 60 Minutes “I love struggling, it makes me feel alive” is a legit revolutionary statement from a Bay Area native in a time when copious amounts of time and resources are being put toward convincing us to opt out of experiencing struggle, friction and self-actualization

Once, technology solved problems. People liked having problems solved, so they liked technology. Tech execs started to think of that sentiment as their due. So when they stopped solving problems, and people stopped liking them, they became outraged. "How dare you not love whatever we give you?"

tante@tante.cc

I am a luddite and to me there is a lot of joy in technology. In technology that we deploy for all our wellbeing. Solar panels and vaccines, high-speed rail and wikipedia. But they joy stems from the feeling of being able to be part of humanity in an embedded, meaningful way. Not from buying shit.

Slop is the perfect word to describe the low-quality, high-volume, AI-generated content being thrown around. If you don't have time to write it, I don't have time to read it.

Interesting point raised by a smart friend today: Traditional DevRel/tech community building are over, because AI kills loyalty to platforms / frameworks / etc. Not just because it lowers switching costs ... but because it destroys the self-identification people used to feel with their tools.
