Here's my rule of thumb for which AI technologies I believe will survive the test of time and which ones I believe will fizzle out as fads: If you have to use the words "AI", "LLM", "intelligent", "agentic" or something similar to name the feature or explain the value then it's a fad

Equally harmful: pressuring someone to only spend five minutes reviewing the same code The common failure mode in both cases is micromanaging how engineers do their jobs. Engineers have natural checks and balances against misbehavior which are steamrolled when management sets blanket expectations
"they spent five minutes on this shit and they expect me to spend my entire afternoon reviewing it?" Is it really AI or is it just sparkling organizational unfairness?! @charity.wtf and I are doing a live AMA on October 21 on tough questions of this era. Join us! www.honeycomb.io/go/ama-debug...

@fullmoon.id Apparently your identity is baked into the weights of gpt-5.6-sol???

I elaborate on this more in this blog post where I explain why consistency and predictability are signs of bad engineering, but the basic idea is: - repeating yourself is bad - boilerplate is bad haskellforall.com/2024/07/soft...
I’m told this is more efficient
It’s okay, we can fix agent-generated code with better tests *begins generating tests* It’s okay, we can fix the tests with formal specs *begins generating formal specs* It’s okay, we can fix the formal specs with better intent docs *begins generating intent docs* It’s okay, we can fix the int
