For 100 years, the hardworking men and women at the South Jersey Port have kept our region supplied and shared what we've made with the world.   It was great to be there this week at their annual safety day to celebrate that storied history. Here's to another safe and successful hundred years!

Thank you to UFCW Local 75 for having us at their annual Steward Seminar. The work you do deserves recognition, but more importantly, it deserves fair pay, good benefits, safe working conditions, and the respect every worker has earned. 🙏🏻💙

Enjoyed stopping by the Central Midwest Regional Council of Carpenters Open House earlier this week in Merrillville. Such a great event for students to directly see this world-class facility and the incredible career opportunities available in our region.

It’s #HispanicHeritageMonth! We honor the Hispanic and Latino labor giants who fought for workers’ rights, fair wages, and safe working conditions. They paved the way for progress, and their legacies fuel our fight for change today.

Clemente Nicasio Idar was an organizer for the AFL (now @aflcio.org). As one of the first Mexican American organizers in the mainstream labor movement, Idar worked to organize Mexican and Mexican American workers and improve wages and working conditions across the U.S. Southwest.

In 1916, Luisa Capetillo helped organize & lead a massive Sugar Cane Strike in Puerto Rico, successfully mobilizing over 40,000 workers to secure an average 13% wage increase. Her activism took her across Puerto Rico and to New York City where she continued to educate & organize workers

After working as an organizer for @unitehere.org, Miguel Contreras went on to lead LA County Federation of Labor. In 2000, he helped rally crucial support for the historic janitors' strike which secured a landmark contract that became a national blueprint for organizing low-wage, immigrant workers.

Dolores Huerta co-founded @ufw.bsky.social. She led a national grape boycott to drive changes across California’s table grape industry. She negotiated the first collective bargaining agreement between agricultural business & farm workers winning better wages & working conditions.

Baldemar Velásquez founded FLOC in 1967. Under his leadership, FLOC made labor history by becoming the first union to negotiate multi-party collective bargaining agreements and the first to represent H-2A guestworkers under a labor agreement.

When I started as an organizer, I knew I had found my union home when I stepped into a room with leaders like those gathered by 32BJ SEIU. From food service workers to security officers, the hardworking members of 32BJ SEIU fight for an economy that works for all workers like us with joy!

I am so proud of the home care workers who have taken the historic first step to organize and fight for living wages, dignity, and strong Medicaid home care for all. This vote signals a shift in how care is recognized and supported in our country.

A union job can be so much more than a paycheck—something we’ve long known in Pennsylvania 👇

"New analysis of demographic data shows that union men under age 35 are more likely to get married, have kids, and own their own homes—especially young men without college degrees." 📰 https://ow.ly/9Lub50ZOYoj

Replying to @meng.house.gov

That’s why my office joined local leaders in calling for a protected, safe lane for delivery workers on Northern Boulevard in Queens. It’s past time to give the people who keep our city moving safer routes every day they’re on the job.

Today, we remember the lives lost on 9/11 & recognize the bravery of the first responders who answered the call that day. We continue to honor all the workers who lost their lives on the job & their families. We'll never forget their courage, their dedication, & their sacrifice.

My family achieved the American Dream because of the Union benefits my Dad got as a member of AFSCME. This Labor Day, join me in honoring the workers who built this country and in the fight to make sure every working family has a fair shot at the American Dream.

This Labor Day, let’s thank the people who make our world run every single day. Today, I’m grateful for what our labor unions and union leaders have done for so many working Americans.  To the laborers of NJ-10, thank you for working hard for our families and communities.

¡En la unión está la fuerza!   Labor Day is a reminder that solidarity is our greatest strength. And workers' solidarity will protects us from those looking to rob us of our services, our lands, our health care, our jobs, and our thriving futures.

On #LaborDay, we honor the legacy of workers who fought for dignity on the job, including the 8-hour workday and safer workplaces. As a former union member, I know we still have more work to do. That’s why I stand with the Congressional Labor Caucus to fight for you.

Happy Labor Day! When I think about honoring our workers today, I think of my dad, Tony Loureiro, a proud Local 7 union ironworker who spent his life building skylines and bridges across New England. (1/4)

This Labor Day, we honor a simple idea at the heart of the American Dream: hard work should create opportunity and give every family a fair shot at a better future.

As we celebrate the workers who make the #FightingFifth and our country stronger, let’s recognize those forced into labor through incarceration. My Abolition Amendment would #EndTheException in the 13th Amendment that allows slavery as punishment for a crime. It’s past time to end all slavery.

Today we honor workers and unions in MD-08 and across America and rededicate to the fight for fair wages, strong benefits and workplace rights. Let’s stand strong against the oligarchs and authoritarians who want an economy of domination and inequality. Happy Labor Day.
