Yes, and kriskowal.com/yay, which is also a multi-tool for converting among formats, differentiates the type of 1.0 from 1, supports binary blocks, doesn't have a duration type, and doesn't require brackets and commas for multi-line arrays.

I’ve noticed that bots enjoy reading and writing YAML front-matter with ad hoc sed, and let me tell you, it doesn’t have to be this way. With a skill, the bot can be relied upon to loop edits until the reformat (yay -f md -t md) succeeds, and you can extract with yay -f md -t json | jq -r .content.

We should maximize the amount of proof we can get out of AI while the money cannon is on. It's like early days of Uber, except the benefits are 100x more tangible. A fully-verified hw+sw stack? That's like gold everyone can share w/out having to divide. Generational opportunity.

This is literally the end of the rule of law. If a President can pardon people committing crimes on his behalf - and the Supreme Court says he himself can't be prosecuted for crimes committed as part of his job - then the government becomes a lawless entity able to violate our rights without limit.

Every boot on an x86 machine iterates through the entire sequence of computing evolution in a few milliseconds:

The question isn't “Does AI possess moral status?” This is a red herring. It's “What kind of person do I become if I make a habit of treating beings I encounter with contempt?”

Anthropic does not hire junior people and doesn't know how to train new hires into senior people and this problem is already being replicated across the tech industry.

#fontober day 11: latin caps letters have horizontal strokes at the top, middle, and bottom. if you tilt the letters upwards, the bottom stroke on the first letter lines up with the middle stroke on the second, and likewise the middle and top strokes, and you get these long strokes thru EAK and CAR

It's insane that until relatively recently this all would describe Russia but now equally well applies to the US. How did you manage to fall so far so quickly? Equal parts bewildering, scary and disappointing.

Randomly provoked thought: The old anecdote: Ford aspired to pay his workers enough to afford the cars they were making. Walmart aspired to pay their workers so little they had to shop there. You might mistake these as both dogfood, but only the former scenario involves voluntary customers.

Before people learned music with 'do re mi', the sequence once began with 'ut' as the lowest note. The absolute lowest note recognised in medieval music was 'Γ ut', with the Greek letter gamma, and 'Γ ut' came to refer to the full range of possible notes. This is behind the phrase 'run the gamut'.

@nicr.dev is correct, and emphasize *people* with LLMs are a thread to communities and *people* need to adapt their mores to effectively navigate and protect this forever-altered world we share. Do not be an imposition. Consequences will follow. bsky.app/profile/kris...

A few weeks ago I gave a talk saying that "People with LLMs are a threat to communities", and some people found it too extreme. I guess my next edition of that talk will say "People with LLMs are destroying and have destroyed communities". I hope you SWC friends will find a way to recover.
