Ever wonder how much of modern @nodejs.org actually came from Deno? Luca and I did a whole session on it: the ideas, the features, and the friendly competition between the two runtimes. A really great conversation about how open source pushes each other forward.

I'm thinking people are still struggling to understand what a warranty free open source software license actually means. No one is entitled to free support. If you want it supported, roll up your sleeves and help .. or click that little Fork button and do your own thing...

Itโ€™s kicking off on the Deno issue tracker

... You don't get to complain when the people giving you free software decide to go do something else instead.

I am planning to publish a @deno/doc (or @jsr/doc) cli to JSR, as JSR will continue to exist and as such any important crates related to it will have to be kept alive.

Obviously I think Workers are the ideal migration target, but @netlify.com is a solid choice also. Options are good.

As Deno Deploy is shutting down in 6 months, we at @netlify.com want to make sure migrating is as easy as possible if you choose us. If you're a Deno Deploy user interested in helping us vet our migration guide/tooling, please reply or DM me!

One thing I'm hoping to come out of this is that Deno... or at least a derivative of it, is picked up by someone in the ecosystem and continued. We need choice and diversity in the ecosystem.

Some key important bits... Deno will continue to receive bug and vuln fixes for at least the next year. JSR will continue to run and be supported.

Companies have a deep rooted *obligation* to invest in human development and connection more than they do in AI development. Companies that fail to do so will ultimately not survive whatever we historically end up calling this transitional period we find ourselves in right now.

Yeah, but, people's conf budgets are being cut to pay for more tokens.

Had a few people ask about my new tattoo last week at NodeConf.eu. It's simple but meaningful to me. The "stars" are mini Node.js hexagons. The lines connecting them represent the people I've connected with through OSS. The intentional flaws in it represent how delightfully imperfect OSS can be.

The only correct response.

If anybody says "kibibyte" to me I reflexively punch them straight in the nose. Then I apologize and thank them for clarifying. Then I punch them again

My biggest takeaway from the week in Italy is that Duolingo absolutely does not properly prepare you for a week in Italy. Devo studiare meglio! Quando provo ad aprire bocca per parlare italiano, il cervello mi si spegne ๐Ÿ˜ญ

@nodeconf.eu in Italy was remarkably successful. Absolutely wonderful week surrounded by great friends and open source colleagues, fantastic conversations, beautiful cities. And the best news? We get to do it all again next year. Should be announcing plans soon.
