I completely agree with this post, from the other side. If people could stop sidetracking it by invoking the trigger-word "genocide", then there could be a productive discussion about whether or not Israel's actions were justified.

Extraordinary, powerful and heart-wrenching. Active duty Marine Colonel Zach Schmidt, speaking in his personal capacity, about Khalil, an Afghan national whose family helped U.S. forces in Afghanistan. Khalil was deported by the U.S. on Friday to a conflict zone.

AI RANT Following the cancellation of three major debut book deals over AI suspicions, I decided to put my own (needless to say, 100% human-written) prose to the test. My detector of choice was Originality AI, and the results proved to be jarring, to say the least. 🧵1/5

Fuck AIPAC but they’re not the only bad guy. When I post about a Democrat sucking, and y’all go right to AIPAC, it’s really testing the antisemitism fence and I’m tired of having to parse that shit. Centrist Dems suck for more than one reason, and if you go right to Jews, you’re not helping.

I understand that funding bodies want to go all in on AI as the shiny new innovation thing. But if all the grants start going to AI at the expense of everything else then the research sector is going to end up looking like a farm with dozens of threshers hacking away in a field with no wheat.

I find it insane that a country would choose to deport someone married to an American citizen. Sure, look for fraudulent marriages, but if the marriage is real, how could the damage you're doing to that American citizen possibly be worth whatever hypothetical benefit you get from deportation?

ICE agents threatened to beat up a Seattle small business owner, married to a citizen, with NO criminal record unless he signed a "voluntary" departure. I'm told there were cameras in the room. I'm demanding any video and that Eduardo be brought home immediately.

On Thursday, ICE needlessly detained Eduardo Aguirre Esparza, a local Seattle small business owner with no criminal history. This is a man who is married to an American citizen and with deep ties to our local community who was working hard to pursue a legal pathway to lawful permanent residence.

A long thread by Trung Le Nguyen, a millennial "live tweeting" as they read Pride and Prejudice for the first time, is delightful, but they've disabled quote posts so you will have to look it up for yourself.

In an unprecedented act of dissent, active-duty USAF Major Jason Watson was arrested on the Capitol steps after calling for the impeachment & removal of Donald Trump. Risking his career to uphold his constitutional oath, his arrest marks a historic moment. ✊🏻✊🏿✊🏼✊🏾✊🏽

I agree spoils system type firing is a terrible idea in general, if (big if) a democratic president is elected they need to immediately fire all Republicans in government because that's the only way they will get a consensus around amending the Constitution to unwind the unitary executive theory.

Co-sign @stevevladeck.bsky.social. It may feel good to purge Trump holdovers under the next Democratic president. But the deeper damage that Slaughter inflicts on the infrastructure of our democracy will ultimately cause way more pain. www.stevevladeck.com/p/236-three-...

This is textbook violation of fiduciary duty on behalf of the Board — it's deliberately sabotaging your own institution to make a political point. Every Board member who voted for this is breaking their oath.

Happy Tuesday! Who's ready to hear about 1. Flesh-eating maggots (mostly go after cattle) 2. They're native to the US 3. The USDA has kept them out of the US since the 1960s 4. But the flesh-eating maggots are making a 21st century comeback. And believe it or not it may be thanks to MAGA.

This is right, although I do think it’s worth underscoring that “I just want someone who will challenge the establishment and the status quo” is indeed the same logic that got us Trump, which is a good reason to view it and those who peddle it skeptically.

Wajahat Ali@wajali.bsky.social

I don't think this latest scandal will affect Platner. Mainers don't seem to care. People just want individuals who will challenge the establishment and status quo. They are fed up. In part why Trump won bc he promised to shake up a system but people realized he's the most corrupt of them all.

It’s bullshit for the Washington Post to call this looting of the Treasury a “deal“ and an “agreement.” The Trump regime is self-dealing to create an agreement between Trump and Trump, with no judge allowed to weigh in. It’s a dictator stealing from the people.
