Two bonuses have joined the lineup: 🗣️ Mark Boas will give a quick shout out to cool new transcript work for better verifiable video on the Atmosphere. 🍱 Nathan Cassell has been on an absolute roll with tile demos on the (oh yeah) Appmosphere, and he'll show us a few.

To everyone working on DAG-CBOR/DRISL implementations. There was a small update to that specs that shouldn't cause much problems, but is newsworthy: negative zero -0.0 is now forbidden. I recommend serializing it with the bytes from `0.0`. github.com/ipld/ipld/pu... github.com/darobin/dasl...

github.comfix: reject -0.0 by vmx · Pull Request #65 · ipld/serde_ipld_dagcborFor IEEE 754 floats -0.0 is equal to 0.0. It makes sense to have only a single representation for the same numbers, hence always encode it as 0.0, i.e. 0x0000000000000000.

📊 New report is live, tracking @ipfs.tech network performance trends from late April up to today. Highlights: 🚀 Kubo v0.39+ publish times holding strong under 1s ⏱️ DHT lookup latencies constantly below 0.4s ✅ IPNI keeping >99% uptime with 0% delayed ingests under heavy load.

Send us your projects and ideas!

Are you working with civic open data? Or other kinds of cool data? Reach out! There already are some cool projects for geo/sat and astronomy data — making dataset metadata available and searchable in a decentralised yet unified way — and we want to help more of them emerge!

The future is now! - Dial keys, not IPs, thanks to Iroh - Fetch hashes, not URLs, thanks to DASL - Build on shared records, not siloed databases, thanks to the AT Protocol

Iroh@iroh.computer

We just released the first stable version of iroh, v1.0! Read about it: www.iroh.computer/blog/v1 We're super proud of where we landed with iroh's 1.0. Since version 0.35 it feels like we've entirely replaced the "engine underneath". Are you a fellow key-dialer? Come tell us how you use iroh!

Faster dags for python users!

Ilya (Marshal)@marshal.dev

🚀 Python libipld v3.4.0 is out! Up to 30x faster DAG-CBOR decode than pure-Python library. Up to 2x faster than v3.3.2, with ~30% quicker CAR parsing for the Bluesky firehose! More details: github.com/MarshalX/pyt... #atproto #bluesky #python

Cool property of atproto that isn't talked about is how CIDs make mirroring free. 1 user publishes 1 record, that takes ~1kb in the blockstore 1 user publishes 100 records, that takes ~100kb 100 users publish the same 100 records, and that... also takes ~100kb

Manifest-declared protocol handlers just landed (behind a flag) in Chrome 146 🎉 This is how ipfs:// or atproto:// can become first-class citizens of the browser! The web that's coming is built on keys, hashes, and verifiable data. Browsers need to meet it there. ipfsfoundation.org/protocol-han...

ipfsfoundation.orgProtocol Handler Registration in Chrome 146 and the Browser as OSManifest-declared protocol handlers in Chrome 146? The web that's coming is built on keys, hashes, and verifiable data. Browsers need to meet it there.

Read through for a great deep dive from @lajava77.bsky.social @igalia.com on how it works and the many security considerations along the way.

Tomorrow at 4p UTC / noon ET is the monthly CID Congress, working group edition. Two nice presos + discussion, and some general updates post-Atmosphere. See you there!

Are you ready to dazzle, bedazzle, and be dazzled? Because this coming Thursday is DASLing Group day! We're getting: • New video primitives MUXL & S2PA from @iame.li • The Radworks local-first app launcher from @norman.life • And more! Don't miss out! luma.com/yv4v1lba

🦀 Hey rust users, if you’re affected by the core2 yanking, fixes are now live in rust-cid v0.11.2 and rust-multihash v0.19.4. Thanks github contributors cwlittle, benten-ben, & jxs!

Are you (yes *you*!) using IPFS gateways on a regular basis? If so, please be in touch. We have a next-generation alternative that's better in many ways and we'd like people to test it hard.

Important piece of multi-protocol support in browsers! Thanks to much work from Javi, and funding from @ipfs.tech. HEY NOW, settle down - a ways to go: - can only redirect to URLs/paths - no Safari - off by default in Chrome (for now) - only allow-listed schemes unprefixed Step by step...

Matadisco uses ATProto to let anyone publish dataset records and build domain-specific discovery portals. Many research orgs already use IPFS to store and verify datasets reliably. Matadisco makes them findable and useful.

IPIP-0499 fixes this with 2 named profiles. In addition to deterministic CIDs, we also get: ⚡ Faster verification (compare CIDs directly, no need to fetch underlying data) 🌿 Better performance (shallower DAG trees, faster seeks, fewer DHT announcements)

Content-addressing promised consistent, reproducible CIDs for identical data, but encoding parameters got in the way. Uploading the same file with Kubo, Helia, or Singularity could produce 3 different CIDs because each one used different chunking, DAG width, and HAMT settings.

Holy shit @iame.li and @stream.place are pullling C2PA into the atmosphere together with @ipfs.tech. I am am kinda gobsmacked to see this suddenly pop up as a real thing that Eli's making. @reckless.bsky.social and Jess Weatherbed talked about the problems w/ C2PA www.theverge.com/podcast/8740...

theverge.comReality is losing the deepfake warWhy metadata standards like C2PA are not remotely equipped to handle the current AI deepfake crisis.

The IPFS white paper is one of the first paper club read throughs I hosted. Very readable! Led me down the content addressing rabbit hole. So useful! Content that you can get from any random place and still trust. Nick’s deep dive on CIDs is a lot, but gets you all the background you need.

Nick Gerakines@ngerakines.me

I wrote a deep dive on CIDs, the self-describing cryptographic fingerprints behind every record, blob, commit, and Merkle tree node in ATProtocol. Part 1 covers the history, the encoding primitives, and the specific constraints ATProtocol applies.

Instead of only Served and Blocked requests, we now also present the percentage of Badbits requests, which were previously grouped under Blocked. We also show the number of requests that were Redirected.
