The IPFS white paper is one of the first paper club read throughs I hosted. Very readable! Led me down the content addressing rabbit hole. So useful! Content that you can get from any random place and still trust. Nick’s deep dive on CIDs is a lot, but gets you all the background you need.

I wrote a deep dive on CIDs, the self-describing cryptographic fingerprints behind every record, blob, commit, and Merkle tree node in ATProtocol. Part 1 covers the history, the encoding primitives, and the specific constraints ATProtocol applies.

IDs by hashing file content got me very excited back before bittorrent2 existed. Really wanted an "availability" number for every large-ish file on my hard drive, like you get in a torrent client. Didn't get around to it.
