“Moreover, the agency had been directed not to alert the voting machine company if it uncovered flaws, contrary to its standard practices.”

ProPublica@propublica.org

Political appointees at the Department of Homeland Security wanted CISA, an agency that protects election systems, to acquire and hack a voting machine, which shocked staffers. “This goes against everything CISA represents,” a former official said.

We’re proud to be an anchor project in the @mozilla.org Foundation Human-Scale Al Incubator. We’ll be doing this alongside a cohort of builders making purpose-built tech sized to the problems it’s meant to solve. Seven more spots are open now with up to $500k over two years in non-dilutive funding.

Can we please stop giving so much power and influence to these deranged narcissistic assholes?

“Palantir cofounder and CEO Alex Karp states ‘AI will undermine the influence of highly educated, often female voters and give it to working class men. We have feminine energy running our cities and our courts,’ he complained.”

Love the framing of "build on atproto without the hard parts." In the early days there were definitely people who complained that it was too tricky to build, but now we're seeing people making it easier and easier at almost every level. The excitement that "we can just build things" can bring...

So... how does HappyProto work? The short version: you write scripts, and HappyProto runs them as API routes, or as reactions to activity on the network. 🧵 #atproto

before seeing this: haha eMudhra shouldn't be a CA anymore after seeing this: oh, no, what the fuck? they actually shouldn't be a CA anymore

This is an absolutely astounding press release from eMudhra. No apology, a suggestion that the researcher who found their private keys must have used AI, and an attempt to shift blame to auditors... wow. emudhra.com/en/press-release/emudhra-statement-distrust-global-tls-intermediate-root-ca

Surely it’s too much to ask for any evidence that these polls are “fake”.

Kevin Collier @kevincollier.bsky.social

In any other admin, this would probably be the most outrageous official statement ever made by a sitting FCC director: Strongly implying that the government forbids broadcast networks from reporting on the president's falling poll numbers. (Sorry to paste from twitter but that's where he posts.)

And yet, I see people posting about agent fleets redlining their mac studios and can't help but wonder if I'm Not Doing Enough. The balance between doing stuff fast enough to be productive but slow enough to understand and be intentional about what's happening is tough, and very context dependent.

As someone with limited free time, I'm having a blast achieving all my homelab and self hosting aspirations with the help of LLMs. I can design and plan the architecture. But letting an agent grind through the fiddly bits while I take care of weekend dad responsibilities? 🤌

Maybe it's primarily well-scoped but complex projects where people are letting agents run wild like this? Like the recent game decomp efforts? I'm pretty happy with the significantly lower effort required to deliver my meager ideas tbh. Guess I need to up my project ambitions 🤷

Meta took down the No Kings instagram; TikTok banned the Musk documentary account for supposedly violating its political posting policies. - Can you pass the salt? - Passing the salt is real work. Probably about a day's worth. Given we're on track to finish lunch today, I probably would budget that for next quarter. - Just pass the damn salt *passes salt* - Okay, you win this one. It actually took three seconds. Publishing “Cryptographic Right Answers” for developers is a tradition by now. Colin Percival started in 2009, Thomas Ptacek followed up in 2015, and then Latacora carried on in 2018 and 2024. I put together a list updated for the renewed urgency of migrating to post-quantum algorithms.

open source and open data as an ethos is largely anti capital and anti authority and is inherently political in ways we need more of

Eugene Vinitsky 🍒@eugenevinitsky.bsky.social

My support for bluesky/atproto is pretty much explicitly a "political" project. It is bad for a small number of (mostly right-wing) people to literally own all the sources of media. Open-source algorithms + the ability to move your account without negative network effects opposes this.

My agent after churning on a fairly simple question from me. > Enough. Answer. Relatable.

When switching from IC to management, the most common challenge is "it's hard know if I'm having an impact" when your impact happens by proxy. This is widely understood. Tech falling into the same oblivious thinking of "well they aren't committing code so they must be useless" is pretty silly.

Fifteen years ago, in the classroom, wikipedia was annoying because it was hard to describe to kids who relied on it why it wasn't a good source to cite in a paper. Now, it's the final remaining example of citational responsibility any of them have ever seen.

Lowkey excellent thing about Wikipedia: accurately describing the extremism and lies of right-wingers because its sole concern is provable truth, while the media tiptoes around accurately describing whats happening to avoid appearing “biased” against the extremists and liars

Words/phrases I've used in the past that AI has ruined for me: - real - honest - pressure test - push back I hesitate any time I find myself using these now. Cool.
