🤯”Bicyclists are channelled to… crossings of the intersecting streets just outside the normal pedestrian crosswalk area. In effect a bikeway ring around the intersection is created”🤯 Holy Moly that’s a cyclops! 1976! And none got built! I was two!

This is great news, and long overdue. I was at Bradford Interchange yesterday - with four platforms, no through lines and very limited facilities, it feels like a small town station serving 20,000, not the primary station serving a population of half a million. secretmanchester.com/new-northern...

This is the thing that annoys me most about AI It’s becoming impossible to trust anything. But this is good news. At least I think it is good news. Humanity had so nearly figured stuff out…

What's happening here? Maybe something changed part way through 2023 on urban/residential 30mph roads! I wonder if it could be that from Sep 17th 2023 95% of roads with a 30mph limit were changed to 20mph. #20splenty making your place an even better, safer, quieter, fairer place to be!

My take on the Andy Burnham speech is that my 14yo daughter saw a bit of it on TikTok & then asked to watch the whole thing with me. She told me afterward that the hopefulness of it almost feels miraculous to her because her whole life the people in charge have been purposely making everything worse

A short thread on “legitimate concerns”. The phrase is used repeatedly by UK government ministers. The Home Secretary is at it again this week. But only ever - as far as I can tell - in one context: people’s response to the arrival of asylum seekers. Please read whole 🧵before responding - thanks

Anyone actually surprised at this? They are bought when they enter parliament, told what to do and rewarded if they succeed

I have become such a fan of the Norwegian Consumer Council recently. They don't just do these cool vids, the reports are actually really detailed and insightful and oddly strongly written (for a gov't agency, particularly in Norway). Also not fatalist at all www.forbrukerradet.no/breakingfree/

forbrukerradet.noBreaking FreeIn the new report Breaking Free: Pathways to a fair technological future, the Norwegian Consumer Council has delved into enshittification and how to resist it.

Seven Prime Ministers. Nine Chancellors. Ten years. Britain's political instability is holding the country back. If Andy Burnham is serious about changing politics, he should back proportional representation and give every vote an equal voice.

Fundamentally, much of the clique around Westminster are "politics nerds" who find actual politics cringey and uncomfortable. They love court politics, scandal, intrigue, but not the whole business of "who has power and how does the application of said power help or harm people?"

A rare example of a quality full redesign of a street in Italy. Via Amedei, Mantova. First pic, how it was, i.e. the typical oversized street of postwar peripheries. Other 3 pics: how it's now, turned one-way, depaved and traffic-calmed.

Should probably be more talk in commentary about the LibDems, quietly holding on to the places taken from the Conservatives over the last 4 years and as a result potentially at a GE stopping a Reform/Con coalition being possible.

The next few weeks will see hundreds of newly-elected Reform councillors panicking when they realise their council isn't spending millions on DEI, and managing local authority finances is actually quite hard.

Banning children from social media is like building car-centric cities and then forcing children to take traffic safety classes. We need social media platforms and spaces designed safe for children, not adults who create shit and then try to regulate the children.

I should also mention, given how disappointed I've been in this government, that this is probably the most important issue facing us today and it is the one area where the government's performance has been very impressive. Thank fuck for Ed Miliband.
