MYTH: Every mixup is a 50/50 FACT: All is written. You were never meant to block that low. The very concept of a mixup is the post-hoc invention of a mind in hitstun. The trajectory of particles cannot be changed

purchasing a bike: why would I need suspension, I'm not going offroad, I'll just save the money bringing a box of nice little pastries back home to my girlfriend while trying not to hit any bumps: fuck!!!!! if only I had suspension!!!!!

Got fired from my day job that was keeping me not completely drowning so I guess I'm throwing out a message in a bottle with the below example and a link to my portfolio: goodbye.computer So like, if your company has a project coming up that needs this sort of skill-set, I am available now.

they should invent a version of game development that doesn't make you crazy or apathetic or burned out or unemployable or some combination of the above

orthographic views in level editors are a curse because sometimes you zoom out and yell because you made a layout that looks like a dick and balls again fucksake how does this keep happening

makkon's textures have been a cornerstone of the quake community for as long as I can remember. they're absolutely gorgeous, thoughtfully designed, and thoroughly field-tested.

I'm immensely proud to announce that my texture library that's been in the making for nearly a decade is now available on my itchio store for indie devs to purchase commercial licenses. makkon.itch.io

I feel like when people get concerned by FGC jargon they're like tattling on themselves for not having hobbies outside of videogames like some people would see how skate trick are named and described and die like a dorito-peasant.

I've had a lot of people try to armchair diagnose me as various flavours of neurodivergent over the years and at this point I think I would rather just not know. I have enough on my plate please let me labour in ignorance.

it's a great day to wake up, load an old doom wad you vaguely remember being bullshit hard, and decide there's no shame in picking 'hurt me plenty' this time around

the neighbouring apartment has a toddler and I don't know much about raising kids but apparently there's a crucial point where they develop both the means and the overwhelming impetus to just throw themselves with full force at the wall a lot

It's really refreshing seeing shitey normal working class life depicted like this in a game, and a Silent Hill game no less. Pebble-dashed council flats, three-bar fires, Post Office counters, concrete shopping precincts. This must be how posh people felt playing Everybody's Gone to the Rapture.

Andy Kelly@ultrabrilliant.xyz

Seeing a five quid powercard in a Silent Hill game is mangling my mind more than any of the faceless shambling horrors.

hideo kojima loves to ask "what if a lone soldier took down a tank????" and then present you with the most looney-tunes-ass scenario you've ever seen in your life

Wipeout 3 (1999). Still transcendent in raw aesthetics, there's a timeless pleasure in precisely gliding over spiraling tracks of reinforced concrete at five hundred kilometers an hour to Sasha and Orbital.

at some point in my CS:Source map collecting days I extracted a map into my game folder which reskinned the default flatscreen television model with this frame from Batman V Superman on it. I'm not 100% sure how to revert it so he's been popping up everywhere for years at this point. hello batman.

it's honestly criminal how using a hair straightener triples the amount of time that needs to elapse before my hair looks like it needs a wash. spent years trying to be gentle with it and getting nowhere and now I'm being rewarded for putting it in the torture tongs.

Loved seeing this system take shape. It felt like one of those key advances during development that put a lid on the chaos we'd created and turned it into something you could learn the rules of.

I wrote about how Skin Deep's "Highlighter System" works -- automatically detecting events in the world and showcasing them to the player: blendogames.com/news/post/20...

laser clinic here has a little ad slogan that says "a year from now, you'll wish you'd started today" and I just know that one has dealt critical damage to more than a few poor trans girls

started playing Reservoir Dogs for the PS2 and I still am struggling to believe it is a real game that exists. why are there vehicle sections. why is there a morality meter. why is there so much extra dialogue. why are there weirdly unique hostage-taking and ordering-people-at-gunpoint mechanics.

it's not exactly *good* but it's weirdly high-effort in a lot of unexpected ways. I fucked up in a driving section and the characters in the car stopped their (very long) conversation to complain, then resumed where they left off. also it has this incredible tutorial popup
