As of this month I've been managing @2mello.net for an entire year! 🎊 To celebrate, AMA! I would love to share some of what we've done and a little bit of industry knowledge <3

I don't like when human art is promoted simply with "I don't use AI to make this". You still need to make me feel interested, I'm not going to pull up to your table to eat based on a principled stance alone. Don't let AI take that from you, too.

There are a lot of well-meaning posts like "draw a stick figure and you're already better than AI" and while it is true, we already have too many people who phone it in with completely human craft now. It doesn't need to be polished, but you will need to put your whole foot in this for me.

There are a few narrow spaces that got completely bodied by AI and really do benefit in throwing this tag on their stuff so as to not get endless queries. Original ambient music and curated mixes on YouTube come to mind. For them, I just think it's sad they have to fetter their art with it now.

Hey, I'd really like to make this track for my friend's short horror film, so check out the funding page and help them reach this stretch goal! seedandspark.com/fund/exclusion

Our first stretch goal is about to turn things up. At $11,000 raised, acclaimed hip-hop artist and game composer extraordinaire @2mello.net (Denshattack!, Demon Tides, Later Alligator, and countless others) will be joining EXCLUSION with an original end credits track.

YouTube hasn't paid out music streaming earnings to Distrokid for almost two months with no communication, so my income has been cut in half just for fun. It's a startling reminder that the entire streaming ecosystem could just go away overnight because a tech company lets it. Buy albums if you can.

This is still going. I hate that of all the times these systems could have failed, it had to happen during such brutally lean financial times in the first place. The in-between income I depend on to live and make further art is being held with no explanation.

It's Bandcamp Friday and I'm so proud of this album. I think it's one of the best things I've made, and this is a great day to pick it up or just listen for free. Thank you for your support!

rhythm pools 02 is here! "Effervesce" means to show liveness or exhilaration. I made this album for us to get excited and let loose! In this album are some of my loudest, larger-than-life songs among my favorite things I've ever made. 2mellomakes.bandcamp.com/album/rhythm... 2mello.net/store

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

Good article. For my part, I've never been able to survive on game work alone, from 2013 to now. It's always been the side thing. Everyone I work with is great and we're trying to do the best for each other. I often rely on people wanting to repeat work with me cuz new opps are slim.

EXCLUSIVE: 2026 is shaping up to become one of the most nefarious years for video game layoffs. I spent the last couple of months asking game music composers a very simple question: how are you holding up? nowplaying.cool/how-indie-ga...

I think you would have to be doing a couple full soundtracks a year to survive off game music alone, and besides that opportunity only existing for very few composers, that's also a brutal hustle. I have to switch it up and have a few lanes. Bottom line is most of us virtually have at least 3 jobs.

I think it's great that devs can go with different musicians across their development careers and introduce new colors to the work. But boy, it sure would be great for composer morale and institutional knowledge if there was such a thing as in-house sound teams again.

I decided to play Silent Hill: Townfall at locked 30FPS voluntarily because I genuinely think it vibes way better with the cinematic look they're going for (I'm right), and I'm now playing the SH2 remake and liking 30FPS more there too. New personal rule for "cinematic" games?

As I listen, every new element is like yep, that's exactly what I would put there. Thank you for the psychic vibrations across time, George.

Silent Hill, you get one flesh-colored humanoid enemy type design per game. Preferably none, but you are limited to ONE

Still enjoying Townfall, but I'm already making lots of ballsy moves around the enemies in stealth because they're just not that scary.

It makes me happy to see that leaving social media, limiting your time here, etc. is so much more normalized now. When I left Twitter early in this decade, I often felt like the only dumbass who threw away all my connections and friends. Now I feel like you can find community in wanting to quit!

I did feel like I lost people on this level of, "I like to look over and see that you're doing ok even if we don't talk." I remember when the Sounds Of Tokyo-To Future teaser had five-figure reactions and I'll never get that again. It also felt like a big opportunity could come thru DM suddenly.

But all that was acquired in a walled garden by a younger, less aware me, and if I was wiser, I would have enjoyed it while it lasted while knowing I fundamentally did not own any of it. The only thing you have is people that you make a real exchange with, a purposeful connection. "Off platform"

Please take a look at the funding page for my friend's sci-fi horror comedy short!

WE ARE LIVE ON SEED&SPARK. Visit our page here; whether you donate, share, or follow, every step gets us closer to our goal. See you all on the other side. seedandspark.com/fund/exclusion

People say they want new things, but you need to spend at least half as much time looking for them as you do seeing if these big companies will make you feel 8 again. And it's probably not going to be on your bluesky timeline because a lot of people making great things don't bother with this website

I stay throwing my new songs up here and sharing other folks' art that needs support, but what gets 10x the attention is takes, dumb jokes, pretty uncontroversial political stances presented in my tone. well here's a take, artists are starving for your eyes here.

What independent artists make is better than you can understand. It has to be, for us to love it so much and give up so much of our lives and keep going regardless of support. I'm making my music better than you can ever know. I'm doing my part of this. It's your turn to pick up the weight, people
