YouTube hasn't paid out music streaming earnings to Distrokid for almost two months with no communication, so my income has been cut in half just for fun. It's a startling reminder that the entire streaming ecosystem could just go away overnight because a tech company lets it. Buy albums if you can.

i do personally go out of my way to buy albums if i find something on streaming i enjoy trying to do my part 🥹

since around last year i have started to buy all my music, because the idea that companies can just take away anything without warning started to scare me a bit, and i also found out that music platforms pay their artists dirt. i like supporting artists and having something i actually own is nice

This is still going. I hate that of all the times these systems could have failed, it had to happen during such brutally lean financial times in the first place. The in-between income I depend on to live and make further art is being held with no explanation.

Company sold for $2,000,000,000 btw. I can’t even get an email back from their legal team for anything ever. Genuinely such a shit company but when you’re basically the only player in town you get to just fuck everyone. Capitalism BREEDS innovation.

Yeah, have wanted to migrate my stuff several times but a lot of the exclusive distribution platforms I was interested in closed entry, and the normal alternatives sound just as bad.
