We need to give more respect to Lizzy Flanagan's December 2021 "I forgot that peacock doesn’t let you screen record and accidentally got the most cursed audio of Gargano vs Ciampa of all time. NSFW warning lmao" tweet. "That the best you got? That the best you got, daddy, huh?"

Haven't posted plants in awhile but I had to bring stuff in for the winter so shit is looking crazy in here

"who plays the guitars" no one they just go there somehow years ago so they're left around as bait for the guitarists that visit frequently enough

but god, LET IPS DIE. Even if the Devs are still around and supportive, don't you want to see the OTHER COOL SHIT they might come up with???

Like I'm not gonna tell devs if they like doing something to stop but so much stuff reaches its natural conclusion point but people are still like "okay but more please?? :> :> :>" homie there is so much shit in the world!!

So much of my favorite shit has been dead as nails for dedades. Other stuff is technically alive, but has been Dead to Me for almost as long. This has never hindered my love for these things, and if anything only deepens it, because I have to appreciate every part of what is there because that's it.

sorry i need to publicly be a hater for a second but what do you mean the giant 230k+ signature save mass effect petition is only about the IP and not the devs that were laid off

I think we underestimate the appeal of antigambling politics because every problem gambler is surrounded by 3-10 people who are absolutely sick of their shit.

I appreciate that people want a new Mass Effect, but the future where fans advocate for the work itself and not the people who make it is the one the vultures at EA want. If you'll take it however you get it, they can keep treating people who make what you love as expendable.

"This remake is inviting new players into this world" is so condescending. Ohh wittle new players oooh you simply cannot handle playing games from 20 years ago...you're too wittle and dumb with your wittle brain

If there is 1 man I want a FULL interview on game design, its Hitoshi Akamatsu. We only have SECOND HAND sources on him, but man he had such great insight into game design even in the early days of gaming. shmuplations.com/castlevania/

LRP, a lot of people sleep on fixed jumps outdated, but they really do free you to do other things. this goes for other parts of jumps too, like would contra be better if you could control the height of your jumps, or would it be another thing to worry about while mashing shoot and dodging around?

(you can absolutely throw it in real ass second tier indie shit, it's super cool)

"But people won't like it and will complain" people will complain because nothing does it anymore and if you just chase design choices that generate the least complaints, you'll eventually end up training an audience who will accept barely anything.

I have played "contra-inspired" games with free aim and controllable jumps. They invariably are either piss easy or have to fill the screen with trash constantly in a way that just looks sloppy to push back at all.

Like I don't think you can throw old school CV fixed jumps in a ""normal"" game without really doing some stuff to justify it a lot, but "Why are you letting the player control that?" is a valid question to ask at all times

I'm usually not that hype for recomps because I'd rather just play shit on an emulator, but Blast Corps in particular feels like a game that could get a lot of life support with mods

One lesson I legitimately wish more movies would take from this one is that it's OK, especially when there's a lot of them, to give all your characters the most absolutely on-the-nose names humanly possible. Worried the audience will forget which girl knows how to kick ass? Just name her KUNG FU.

Also watched House today and the way people would describe that movie, especially back in the day, gave me the completely wrong impression that tempered my interest in ever seeing it and hoooooly shit is that movie actually super cool

I read about that and how the director himself lost almost all his friends in Hiroshima, merging the unreality of living through something like that with the surreal feeling of dreams.

Its extremely dreamlike in quality and I think that shows from its creative direction being directly inspired by the directors daughters own ideas from nightmares. Its beautiful

But yeah if you're someone who is like 'idk if I wanna watch that freaky old Japanese horror movie everyone says is super messed up' like it's not messed up in the way you think it is. It's not necessarily very scary. It's half a comedy, but it thematically succeeds.

One of my favorite bits is the woman who is going to marry the pretty girl's dad, and how her clothes is always billowing majestically in the wind, even when she is on screen with other characters who have no wind. Just laser targeted wind machine, making her feel like an ethereal beauty.

Far more insane things happen in the horror portion of the movie, that are just visually incredible, but on a BASELINE CINEMATIC LEVEL the movie whips ass and just has INCREDIBLE SHOTS like CONSTANTLY. You can scrub through the movie and stop anywhere and it's probably a cool shot.

The thing that fascinated me the most was how fake everything looked and how amazingly everything was staged. There are some CRAZY unnecessary amount of big matte paintings, many of them not even trying to look real, but other times beautiful. And other times, they're fucking jokes

The editing and conventions of this movie seem alien, but not in a "weirdly bad" way but more like you're viewing incredible, top tier work from another dimension it's SO fucking cool
