People don’t understand why I keep noting that BlueSky is not a bubble, it is a counterpublic. It serves its own organizational function: you can see in realtime in January 2025, on multiple types of social media, shouting that an executive order is instruction to an agency. This one stuck.

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

Congrats to Brazil for keeping Lula. And a Big Celebration for Serbia who got rid of a nationalist leader who's been there since 2014

Check out the Amazing work that Erica is doing - this is an important thread for Seattle residents to read. This policy is trash and will not end well for anyone. Keep this in mind as you fill our your ballots. Also support publicola if you can!

Hey! If you learned from my 93-post-and-growing thread on a proposal to ban RVs in Seattle, which I've been posting from City Hall all afternoon, please support my work with a donation or subscription to PublICola, where I post long-form coverage of the city every day. publicola.com/support/

More explicitly a relative of Rep. Pollet, Eileen, who owns a consulting firm that a lot of Dems have used, bought leftycheatsheet dot com and is redirecting it to the FUSE guide as an attempt to confuse people trying to find leftycheatsheet.org

Is it a compliment if someone takes your volunteer project url and buys the dot com version and has it redirect to another website or is it tacky? 🤔

For anyone who likes LitRPGs but isn't into the lone-wolf man who punches his emotions down into the bottomless void trope, Give Apocalypse Parenting a try! The series shows time and time again how we are stronger together and that community is the foundation of civilization.

All WA state candidates are required to disclose assets + income sources. We use this to figure out if the candidate might be a landlord, and how many properties they own. Being/not being a landlord isn't the whole story, but having this info at a glance is unique to our leftycheatsheet.org tool.

As usual, the city council is talking about how fire and police are "chartered responsibilities." I will once again point out that the first-listed charter responsibility is actually health, followed by general safety and the overall wellbeing of Seattleites.

In 2016, Leuven made a bold decision: instead of trying to accommodate ever-increasing car traffic, it would change the rules of the road entirely. A decade later, the Dutch-inspired traffic circulation plan has drastically improved the city’s accessibility, liveability and quality of public space.🧵

Besides intense water use, ~1000-3500 gallons of the most toxic EPA Tier-1 pesticides are applied on Jackson Park each year. This kills urban insects, pollinators, and aquatic bugs; contributes to bird population declines; and injects toxic runoff into our creeks. jp4all.org/learn-more/e...

I've been posting all day (except when on the radio or calls) about a public safety budget meeting at the Seattle City Council that was truly an all-timer on the batshit scale. I'll have a longer post after I breathe into this bag for a while. Meanwhile, please support my work covering City Hall!

I understand the discourse is what it is, but Albet Rusnák is currently 7th in MLS with nine primary assists. Over the past three seasons, he’s fourth in primary assists and ninth in goals+assists. Hasn’t scored enough this year, but the degree to which he’s fallen off is vastly overstated.

We live in an incredible place. I am proud that our city was recently named one of the top five in the world by Oxford Economics using the five criteria of Economics, Human Capital, Quality of Life, Environment, and Governance.

Yesterday, Seattle police released footage of a woman they shot in Beacon Hill. Officers barely attempted to negotiate with her or even establish that she could understand what they were saying before they approached her door.

Anchorage Police Dept lowest use-of-force year on record: still 3x Portland's rate. Still 2.5x Seattle's. In a city with lower crime than both. Alaska Native people are 7% of Anchorage's population. They're 45% of everyone APD put hands on. The audit dropped. Read it. www.adn.com/alaska-news/...

I know everything feels terrible and doomy but I've been working on surveillance issues for most of my adult life and I have never seen so much energy, momentum, and concrete VICTORIES happening as what we are seeing right now on Flock cameras and facial recognition in venues. Keep. Going.
