REMINDER: my recent collection ONE MESSAGE REMAINS was up for the Ursula K. Le Guin Prize for Fiction (!!) and would it have been there without Elise's calm, thoughtful, and patient editing? IT WOULD NOT. First Mate Tobler is an ESSENTIAL part of our SFFH ecosystem. Help her get heal and get home!

Thought I would be going home on Friday, but my wound care is complicated and so I am not yet going home (2 months in the hospital now 🙃). If you can contribute, it will really help. www.gofundme.com/f/help-suppo...

Any fish folks?

Can I get a fish expert, either illustrator, scientist, or outdoors person familiar with anatomy who I can email my sketch of a Sacramento perch to check the gill cover/facial anatomy of art I’m doing for park signage? Fish are still a new-ish subject for me and I need fresh eyes plz. #SciArt 🐟

Nice shirt, you seem like a FUNGI! Get it? A fun GUY! Yeah, that one was off the old dome, thought of it all by myself. Do you get it though? Because fungi are mushrooms and fungi sounds like— wait where are you going? 🏃‍♀️💨 🍄 Topa.to/everything | #NationalMushroomDay 🍄

Fossil nerds/paleontologists: A friend has a cool kid in the US looking for a fossil adventure for his make a wish trip after cancer treatment. Any suggestions for a place to travel and see or dig up fossils?

I need a new book rec! What's a book you've enjoyed recently that's smart and engrossing but isn't too full of trauma/torture/pain? (FYI, casual sexism and homophobia will make me put down a book even if it's lighthearted and fun.) I like fiction, nonfiction, anything is good. Thank you!

Okay Bsky. A request from a new friend I met at the conference today! I asked about his rad shirt and he said it belongs to his coworker's dad who always used to wear it to this conference and so he borrowed it. But he wants to see if he can find one for himself so he can match his friend's dad lol

I've run into a few folks who've asked me what I do when I'm not making cartoons. The answer is books. Right now I'm juggling work on 4 books that I've sold. I've published ten books (sometimes w amazing authors & once with a fabulous coauthor). It's all books, books, books rosemarymosco.com/books

It sounds like a lot of books, but then I talk to some of my heroes in the comics/book worlds and they tell me they've made 50 books or something. My goal is to make enough books that I can create a tiny fort to hide under. Oh, and also to uh, educate and entertain

The most recent episode of Today Explained really helped me understand what happened at Cornell, and the embarrassing game of broken telephone that is now being blamed on the victim. Highly recommended, but it also made me so angry and sad.

A former Cornell student alleges seven fraternity members sexually assaulted her in 2024. She reported the incident to campus police, but why were there no criminal charges? Find out more by listening to this conversation on Today, Explained wherever you get your podcasts.

Last night I saw the Alcest Deafheaven Mastodon triple bill and it was so good. If you get the chance, go. A lot of folks at the show hadn’t heard of Alcest and I think they were blown away, it was so beautiful

Fundraising for mutual aid to support the New Bedford communities currently being hit hard by ICE activity

givebutter.comHumanity At Work - New Bedford Immigrant Justice CoalitionDonate to support individuals and families harmed by ICE activities in greater New Bedford.

Federal immigration agents have detained “at least a dozen” people in New Bedford over the past two days, officials said Tuesday, as community advocates warned of further operations. "How many people are just going shopping, getting their food and going to work, honorable people" being disappeared?

The NSFW mushroom is Ravenel's Stinkhorn. Here are a couple individuals I've seen. You can find them by smell, they hatch from "eggs", and they attract flies. I found the first one in a pristine forest and the second in a Starbuck's parking lot

Elite athletes, musicians, actors & more often use cultural importance as an excuse for why they're exempt from cutting their emissions. In this new analysis led by @manuelsuter.bsky.social, we argue the opposite: visibility and influence should raise the bar, not lower it! Read more:

There’s way too much Harry Potter cosplay at this convention and I’m tired of being told “most people don’t know or care about JKR’s politics.” It is 2026 and she is actively getting laws changed to harm trans people and she brags about how Harry Potter sales fund her rampage of hate.

Not sure why I'm getting messages about it lately, but I'll take it! It's had some nice accolades: 2024-2025 Beverly Cleary Children's Choice Award, 2022 ALA Best Graphic Novel for Children, Here and Now (NPR)’s Summer Reading Suggestion, 2023 CCBC Choices, 2024 RI Children's Book Award Nominee.

I have a very respectable 20-yr sample size. While the number of men sending me AI generated content has increased, overall the number telling me that they’ve solved the problems of the universe has not changed. So for me, it’s just the mechanism that has changed, not the frequency.

I’m going to need everyone who’s reporting on AI psychosis and how it’s making people, especially men, come up with theories of everything to please talk with the scientists who have been getting multiple emails from “theory of everything” guys for decades
