And then you start thinking, “wait, is ALL illness like this?” And it mostly is! Most viruses/bacteria aren’t *themselves* causing you pain; your immune response is, in various ways. Your happiness and comfort are of zero priority to your immune system. All it wants is to kill the bug.

A man builds an IED. He sets it off in a busy public street. Shrapnel flies about hitting cars, homes and a child's bedroom. It's a miracle nobody is injured. And Reform MP Sarah Pochin calls his imprisonment "disproportionate" and "two tier justice."

I'm guessing these are Americans, right? Maybe with an antivaxx, pro MAGA inclination?

40 years on from the Challenger space shuttle disaster, conspiracy theories are being shared on social media suggesting that the accident was a hoax and that the seven deceased astronauts are still alive. This is patently false.

Very interesting. And eye-opening.

A rush of migrants crossing over from Morocco plunged Spain's North African enclave of Ceuta into turmoil in late July 2026, but this clip is unrelated. It actually shows rioting in Toulouse, France after Paris Saint-Germain won the Champions League. Read more: u.afp.com/SHSk

I'm absolutely devastated for colleagues at Jodrell Bank who found out this morning that funding for the UK's e-MERLIN radio telescope array will be terminated. This is a short-sighted move, to save a tiny fraction of the overall UK science budget. #SaveJodrellBank 🔭🧪 www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

bbc.co.ukJodrell Bank's Lovell telescope faces axe in science cuts, BBC understandsAstronomers warn it would tear the heart out of UK science, and leave a generation untrained.

“What will the Lovell Telescope discover/enable 20 yrs from now? I can’t tell you, and that’s the point. It will either be something extraordinary that none of us can yet predict, or we will defund it and leave Cheshire with a rusting monument to unfulfilled potential and discoveries never made.” 🔭🧪

I think if you’re the CEO of an extremely politically exposed firm in the public eye and you agree to take this kind of pay increase at this moment, you’re essentially demonstrating that you are not up to the job.

looks like Thames Water has given a 14% pay rise to its chief executive and a 26% rise to its finance director

Before the heatwave I would wake to the sound of birds in the morning. Today it's very quiet. All the Robins have gone. I hear a Wren, a seagull, wood pigeons, a coal tit, a Blue Tit, a parakeet overhead. Even with these survivors my small garden sounds empty.

Kelly cancer correspondence. Back home after another horrid spell in orspital. But I've just had the most fantastic non-medical pick-me-up. Ireland - yes Ireland- have just beaten India - yes, world champions INDIA! - at T20. Their first ever win over mighty India in any format. #wow

A chilly (!?) and beautiful corner of England

Come with me on a walk up to Flounders’ Folly, a stone tower that stands 80 feet above Callow Hill, near Craven Arms. I woke up at 4am yesterday and arrived not long after sunrise - wishing that I had taken my fleece with me, as there was a surprisingly chilly breeze at the top. #Shropshire

I had an interesting sounding burger for the first time in a while at a decent pub diner, and can testify to this.

Maybe just my underdeveloped palate, but burgers are one of those things which top out quickly for me. A truly world class burger isn’t that much better than a really good burger.
