F. Scott Fitzgerald: In my book I invented Gatsby lifestyle as a cautionary tale The president: At long last, we have created the Gatsby lifestyle from the classic novel The Great Gatsby

How did I miss that Gatsby is a cautionary tale? I totally missed this, and all of a sudden the story that I never thought deserved the reverence it got, is a valuable lesson in opulence. Oh man, very embarrassed..

A doppelgänger: “He is a criminal and a liar: Gatsby's wealth was obtained through illegal activities, and he lied about his past to reinvent himself… He is dishonest and selfish: He is described as selfish for how he used his wealth and for his overall life choices.”

They were careless people, Don and Elon—they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made.

Ah, the orange moron expounding his knowledge of absolutely sweet fuck all! Tone deaf, repulsive, vacuous, morally bereft, vulgar with no understanding of anything beyond grift, greed, and his absolute ignorance.

A novel which he has never read, nor would understand if he even ever tried, AND Trump will never have any good taste, class, or style. So WTF is he talking about?! 🤦🏻‍♀️

I always felt that about Wall Street. Stone miscast Michael Douglas as Gekko. The Greed is Good speech. He was too cool and likable. created yuppies who sold their souls for money

Faux posted a video of this, since it was Halloween and wanted to be horrified, I decided to read the comments - people were saying things like - "Look how much stamina he has". That was their takeaway.

They were careless people, Tom and Daisy- they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made.

Edgar Allen Poe: I wrote this short story, "The Masque of the Red Death", to show the existential horror from the rich and powerful walling themselves off in their enclaves while the public suffers Donny: "Guess what, folks..." www.libraryofshortstories.com/onlinereader...

Because trump is an illiterate demented child He never read the Great Gatsby, at best he watched the movies He's never had an intelligent, thoughtful conversation about any literature, Trump's mind is not developed enough So yes to him it's a movie about opulence & how to be the center of it all

“In that day the Lord will punish the gods in the heavens and the proud rulers of the nations on earth. They will be rounded up and put in prison. They will be shut up in prison and will finally be punished.” ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭24‬

Read an interview with Michael Douglas years ago where he talked about how stunned he was to meet so many people who thought Gordon Gekko was someone to emulate. Douglas was cursed w/an inability to play a villain convincingly. He just can't be hated.

If he thinks of it at all, it's the 1974 Redford (RIP) and Farrow version, and it's about a house and party, not about love and trust and betrayal and classism and racism.

The Great Gatsby continues to be a great book in it's examination of the hollowness of wealth. Now there is another twenties, but more unequal than before. Though it's a more grotesque version of that with Trump, a proud fascist actively ruining your life. It's like Gatsby in a Marquis De Sade book!

It gets even more sinister—Stoddard, the author whose name Tom gets wrong there, was a Harvard eugenicist who advised Congress on immigration and whose Great Replacement book was praised by the NYT…and an inspiration for the Nazis in their “Untermenschen” theories, who he later praised in turn…

And Tom was based on the future director of Texaco, which broke sanctions to fuel the fascists in Spain, so there’s a direct line from Gatsby to Guernica—though Mitchell is let off in history and only his underling gets called out, Tom’s original eulogized as a “philanthropist”…

Because it’s clear Tom is a dull thud whose career peaked playing football, and the very idea he is into reading anything is met with such bafflement by his nearest (not dearest) then— the living embodiment of Dunning-Kreuger. If Fitzgerald didn’t want to name it, he would have just said “a book”

#Republicans: poor people should not expect govt. help. vs. Democrats: Rich Republicans should not use poor people's tax $ to host burlesque shows that sexually objectify women for man who brags abt grabbing pxssy & keeps pedos names of child rapists on Epstein files from being prosecuted #gatsby

proving once again that if you make a fascist aesthetic regardless of your moral stance on the aesthetic - i.e. starship troopers etc., fascists will not care what the moral take is, they are only interested in the aesthetics of domination. So irony, satire, criticism doesn't work on cruel idiots.

Well, your average Trump donor is literally Tom Buchanan - born steps from home plate, completely devoid of integrity, character, or morality; and with profound intellectual insecurity that manifests as really shallow worries about civilization, particularly the survival of the white race
