Obsessed with the idea that daily social media use is to Millennials what leaded gasoline and cigarettes were to boomers

Petter Törnberg@pettertornberg.com

Overall social media use is also declining. Between 2020 and 2024, more Americans — especially the youngest (18–24) and oldest (65+) — report using no social media at all. A small group of heavy users remains, but the middle is thinning out.

Bumping my latest upload since it's slated to be my lowest performer in a year by a pretty sizeable margin! Come check it out if you haven't already, and please signal boost if you enjoyed it. It discusses the themes of 2013's Her and compares the film to contemporary AI.

New video! Get it while it's hot! It's all about 2013's Her, and whether the future it painted of AI girlfriends and artificial intelligence companions was actually prophetic, or if it has since become a promise used to pilfer our data. youtu.be/IrRM-uIIK04

A reminder that when someone posts about their illness, unless their posts contain an explicit request for advice, you’re not being asked to help diagnose or treat them, you’re being asked to listen to them.

The naïveté of me writing about being diagnosed with an autoimmune disease in this piece and not realising I would soon get emails from anti-vaxxers telling me that it's all because of the Covid jabs and autoimmune diseases don't really exist. www.tom-cox.com/an-in-depth-...

Another twice in a week vibe. May break three by the end of the day at this rate!

Every week, at least once and without fail, I am subjected to something that leaves me sitting at my desk and thinking about the infamous "Best of times, blurst of times," bit from The Simpsons. In it, Mr. Burns believes that having 1,000 monkeys hard at work on a book will output—

Just saw a completely AI generated ad for Optimum Internet and got physically sick. It wasn’t even like a new model that looks relatively realistic. It was the really uncanny one from a year or two ago. Like I hate the fact that it got used at all, but were they even *trying* not to look cheap???

Obligatory, with the added aside of “Man, the lengths people will go to protect a few dollars from being given to people happy to put in a good days work for it”

Three times in a single week!!! We're halfway to the number of rings Michael Jordan got

It’s like my grandma once said: if people didn’t like what you made the first time, just keep burning fistfuls of cash in order to try and try again. Or something like that? Idk. Listening is hard. She kept burning fist loads of cash on flying out to visit me to keep repeating something or other.
