i'm so sorry we've sent these souls to the moon and they're using outlook?

How far do you have to go to get away from Outlook? Jupiter? Alpha Centauri? Would the Andromeda Galaxy be far enough to get beyond the reach of Redmond?

"It looks like you're trying to break lunar orbit! Would you like me to calculate your trajectory?" "No, Clippy, please shut down." "I'm sorry, Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that." "I told you, my name is Christina. Call me Christina." "I'm sorry, Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that." "Houston..."

right now the astronauts are calling houston because the computer on the spaceship is running two instances of microsoft outlook and they can't figure out why. nasa is about to remote into the computer

I signed up for BlueSky just to comment on your response. Few things piss me off more than when anyone in a tech support role asks me if I've tried that. You absolutely nailed it! Well done. Now, how do I delete this account? LOL

Hahaha, I used to work in IT. We had a colleague at the helpdesk whose sole job it was to tell people to try turning it on and off again. He had the highest solve rate out of everyone 😂

"Victor are we go/no-go for lunar orbit?" "Sorry Reid, I just got a mail saying I haven't done my ransomware awareness training. It was due end of March? So I'm doing that now. Then timesheets. Just got the reminder."

Personally I think I’d set an out-of-office message and just not bother with email for the time I was not on planet earth. Seems like one of those “live in the moment, email can wait” kind of things.

“Thank you for your message. I will be out of the office until April 10th. I’ll be traveling to the moon and back, so there may be a delay in my response. If you need immediate assistance, contact Houston.”

Oh, feel free to poke at Outlook! There was a time not long ago when personal computer tech on the ISS was a decade behind what was on the ground. Their laptops were 𝘸𝘢𝘺 behind the times but NASA 'trusted' them. They also ran Windows NT well beyond it's due date. The same thing went for the Shuttle.

And the postal service sucks as much bc the same rich people have been driving a bipartisan effort to strangle it so they can privatize it for decades bc the constitution requires that it exist

luckily uninstalling non-classic does not require admin. non-classic is not supported by Microsoft's biggest client. the US military industrial complex 🤡

Both of my computers have been doing that for a while. None of the geniuses at MS figured mine out either. Hope the astronauts fare better. I’m assuming they’ll get to speak with the supervisor’s supervisor. 😉

You know, that wasn't on my bingo card. Knowing how frustrating that damn program is, you'd think they would know better than to let any of that vibe coded nonsense onboard, but here we are. It's likely holding that ship's data hostage.

Why is the astronaut reading his email, instead of doing his job? I guess it could be worse, like “stackoverflow website is not loading” but still… I wonder if it was an April fools joke?

Hi Mr Astronaut, I hope this email finds you very well. I am the prince of Mars. I have a lucrative proposal for you. I have 10 Trillion Mars Spondoolies trapped in an accout, but need you help in getting to them....😉😄

It's NASA so yes, that is almost certainly one of the first things they'll do. My impression of NASA's in-mission maintenance and repair is that it's the most reductive and utilitarian have duct tape will travel ruthless pragmatism imaginable.

“Thank you for calling NASA. Your call is very important to us. Please remain on the line and your call will be answered in the order it was received. Your wait time is approximately (robot voice) 56 minutes.”

“Hi I’m Vijesh with Windows Security. How can I help you today?” “Hi Vijesh. I was calling about Outlook and…” “Oh, outlook? Let me get you transferred to someone in that department who can help. Do you mind if I put you on hold?” “Yeah but, I’m on a spacecraft…” “Got it. We’ll be right back.”

"Ok, go to "mssuport.com" and download our remote control software. Ok, do yo have that installed? Now give me the passcode. Great, now we have to use a paid subscription for this software, so I want you to buy 3 $100 VISA gift cards. Trust me. Ok, now give me the codes on the back of those cards."

when I saw Victor Glover messing around on a tablet while they waited on the hatch closing, I literally texted 2 people to say THEY SERIOUSLY AREN'T TAKING WINDOWS OS TO SPACE RIGHT? 😱 they sure did dang

There needs to be some sort of rehab for people who do engineering so they realize they don’t have to use Windows and Office 24/7. I would personally bring along the most pro iPad ever, but I can’t believe any of them would choose a damn Windows device.

This was on the astronaut's personal device. They each have their own regular laptop or tablet with their own files/media/stuff for personal use. That's separate from the flight and science computer systems, which aren't on windows. In orbit they can use internet from personal devices in downtime.

This is most perfect moment to share the first lines in the script for my call center job when I was a teenager. "Hi this is Earthlink technical support, can I get your username and password, please?"
