I have so many thoughts from last night and it’s hard to keep track of them so I will try to collect them in this thread. Bear with me. I went to sleep at 3 a.m.

Also, just all the drama last night. The beautiful afternoon. Then the rain. The twists and turns. Then night fell. The intensity. All of it. What a stage for all that drama. We are so lucky to be here and now.

Can we pour one out for Alex Grinch? That defense was so confident. It’s fun to see a defense take pleasure in getting after the opponent. And they did something I’ve never seen: They *hurt* BYU. Bachmeier was hobbling. UCF dominated BYU physically. They administered PAIN.

Keyone Jenkins was outstanding. His confidence has grown leaps and bounds every time out. Scott and KZ again do a great job of putting him in position to succeed given his pluses and his minuses. That TD to Derry in OT1 was one of the best clutch plays I’ve seen in recent years.

I nearly had reverse PTSD after the FG block when Stone recovered it. Google Giants-Eagles ‘88 and Clyde Simmons. Heads up play by that kid, grabbing that ball on 3rd down and sticking his face into the pile. Should’ve gotten another try after getting his hat ripped off. Should’ve been a BYU flag.

That was one of the best-coached games I’ve seen at UCF. Frost was fantastic. Players were prepared, confident, and put in places to succeed every down. Even the “controversial” 4th & goal call *worked out*. We got the ball back in good position to win. The kick got blocked.

On today's episode of "Metaphors That Are A Little Too On The Nose":

This is sad. General Dwight D. Eisenhower’s historic World War II globe was broken when Pete Hegseth’s team dropped it while trying to move it into his office.

Your up-to-the-minute COSMOS Top 25ish. Tons of upsets today but #1 Miami, #2 Notre Dame, #4 UCLA and #8 BYU are playing right now, with #6 Utah playing later. #cfb #cfp #cfbplayoff

23 of those spots are going to be available to 68 teams. 1 spot will be available to the other 70. It amazes me how college football keeps getting this wrong.

Ryan Nanni@celebrityhottub.bsky.social

i know they have nothing to do with one another but it is very funny to me that college football is about to be a sport where we 1) rank 25 teams and 2) have 24 playoff spots

Just a spectacular clown who doesn't know the law one bit. Good job by Cat Murphy standing her ground on this dolt.

Baltimore Banner@thebaltimorebanner.com

Republican Rep. Andy Harris incorrectly told a reporter they were breaking the law as the reporter and others recorded an exchange with him last night. Harris had just wrapped up a debate with Democratic challenger Dan Schwartz.

I’m trying to not have this come off as trolling… BUT… If Texas and Oklahoma played this game with blank uniforms in an empty stadium, you’d say this was a sloppy, penalty-filled, mistake-marred mess that nobody wanted to win. Branding is a hell of a drug.

You're either intentionally missing the nuance of what I'm saying or you're an AI ragebot, given all the replies and quote posts. My money is on the latter. Take it or leave it.

I honest to God do think that's a meaningful factor in the athlete sports donor payroll rush, and that going after white-collar crime/making the stupid rich actually pay their taxes, *would* have some impact on the financial structure of big-time college sports.

Jeff Sharon@thisisjeffsharon.com

Genuinely curious: To what extent is the erosion of the tax code for the upper 1% a contributing factor to this? All that extra money had to go somewhere and donating to the old alma mater is one place for it. But if taxes on the rich go up (a lot?) in the next, say, 6 years, then what happens?

So they admitted IN WRITING that Western Michigan was right and the outcome would have been different had the rules been followed, but cannot change the result. Why are you even here then?

NCAA's FBS Oversight Committee finds replay error marred Western Michigan vs. Michigan, but acknowledges that the rules prevent the outcome to be changed.

How did we only score 28 on them?

Sheil Kapadia@sheilkapadia.bsky.social

Based on EPA/drive, the Cowboys had the worst defensive performance by any team in Week 1. It was worse than all but one of their defensive games last year. Among 574 games since the start of last season, it ranked 571st. 7 possessions: 4 TDs, 1 punt, 1 fumble, ran clock out.
