Will voters start waking up ??? 14 years of Tory austerity was a huge failure Now means uk needs tax increases As infrastructure, nhs, schools and much more are desperately needing investment Reform are doing austerity plus … Hope local council voters enjoy it ….

Naaah. Most Reform voters can see no further than a flag being waved under their noses. But will not pay heating bills or fill supermarket shopping trolleys after the Reform clowns have helped break the country.

I remember a local hustings where UKIP promised that elderly care would be free and it would all be paid for by the £55m a day we would save by leaving the EU. When I stood up and pointed out this amounted to a little more than £10-£20 a day per pensioner, I got booed.

But but but , what about all that terrible waste you kept blathering on about? Couldn't you find it? Perhaps there was no waste after all. It was all puffed up lies and guesswork during Reform's campaign wasn't it? Go on. Admit it.

Surprise, surprise! After 40 years of Thatcher economics. Who knew? The lie that there was so much government waste and inefficiency, and that “efficiencies” and privatization was were the answers was swallowed like baby formula. Let’s start the discussion with water utilities…

Imagine this dog-shit of a council on a national scale. Reform voters have no imagination, they need to experience it to appreciate it. The message will not get through until they suffer.

The really galling part of this is that Reform voters will read these headlines, along with the Nathan Gill and other scandals. Most will shrug and continue voting for Reform. For them it was never about the economy, council tax or national pride, it is purely about the racism.

My friend was a Tory Councillor upt North around 15 years ago. Politics often comes up when I meet him. He’s a proper right winger, but without prompting he once said “I can’t see how any councils are reducing costs, I thought we were bare boning it 15 years ago, and it’s been cuts every year since”

Reform realising that empty promises are impossible to deliver. Best stick to the 'boat people' message. 'We have to raise you council tax b/c boat people' 'We have to cut refuse collections b/c boat people' Repeat, repeat, repeat. The dumd f@cks that voted for you love that sh!t

ReformyUk are extraordinarily stupid muppets aren’t they? All they have to show for their election successes are empty promises, a sharp rise in racism, & Counties across the land despoiled by dirty, cheap, tatty flags. I hope they manage to close the door behind themselves when they feck off.

Perhaps if they stopped paying the councillors that would make a saving. It's not like the reform cllrs have started in the volunteer parish/town roles, no straight to main council and payments!

They’ve done a shit job and they’re raising costs. Serves those idiots in Kent right for being so damn stupid and voting for a bunch of incompetent fascists.

They (Tories) are on that horse already. During a news report of their conference I raised a figurative eyebrow at Mel Stride planning to fund a pump of money into the housing market by 'cutting costs'. 14 years not long enough then mate?

Perhaps examples like this could be put to politicians - especially Reform ones - in interviews *before* each election where they promise spending or tax cuts funded by these efficiency savings.

Established parties taking control of a council always have someone with experience of local government to advise. Reform are just a bunch of ignorant armchair warriors most of whom had absolutely no idea of what councils do so when they got in everything about local government was a big surprise.

It's almost like the country's been sucked dry by the super wealthy, leaving public services stripped to the bone. Those people who Nigel sucks up to, and whose interests he serves.

And meanwhile streets and footpaths are overgrown and untended, road repairs are laughably completed, nearly every other road is shut for road works as these idiots just authorised all repairs to happen at the same time. All this before the council tax goes up. Unfit for public office .

Want to find where I supposedly said that about reform? Or did you not manage to read the *very short* post you’re replying to before attempting a ding?

"Just cut spending" is the mirror image of "just tax the rich": a) it's not that simple b) inevitably you end up doing spending more / collecting less c) people insist on seeing failure of successive govts to do it as "didn't want it hard enough" not "more complex than that" d) and persist saying it

What about all the iPhone pro smartphones and 50” flat screen TVs with Sky that they give to everyone getting off a dinghy from Calais? The ones that the Daily Heil tell us about almost every day? That’ll save us all millions of pounds, surely?

There’s a massive knowledge gap in UK on how bad austerity was for Local authorities & civic society, & the impact in turn on citizens, - that is levered & exploited by Mr Farage etc. if we want to change things my guess is we have to be innovative in bridging that gap. bsky.app/profile/levi...

I genuinly think there’s a lot of ignorance across UK of how local authorities work, how stripped of cash they were by austerity Osborne & Cameron, & this gap of expectations (eg ‘LAs hv cash & arent spending it on us but on some “other”’) vs reality (ie there is almost no money & it’s being…🧵👇1/4

Reforms ignorant, deluded Tools fail to run KCC ...makes one wonder, how much will Reforms wealthy donors ultimately benefit from the UKs ever declining public services / economic woes...

This is so disingenuous. These candidates didn't really believe there was room for cuts because council finances are public so they could see them. They simply lied to their constituents to get power, and ended up with more power than they expected so they now have to deal with responsibility too.

Got it in one. Their speciality is "rights" (particularly their version of "free speech") without responsibilities. Responsibilities are something they try to ignore.
