It is Black Cat Appreciation Day and I am remembering my beloved Voo, the most empathic cat I've ever known, who would sit with people when they were upset, and was my constant companion through my labour, & beyond. Taken too young by cancer, she is still missed to this day but so glad to know her

Long-time Farage associate and Steve Bannon devotee Raheem Kassam has been calling Kemi Badenoch a Nigerian scammer repeatedly and claiming it's not racist because "Nigerian isn't a race" but he's also been referring to her as a "Nigerian anchor baby" and it's harder to deny that one IMO.

Jane@localnotail.bsky.social

Farage is doing his standard technically incorrect denial stuff because Raheem Kassam was his chief aide / advisor as UKIP (and close contact at Steve Bannon's Breitbart) but although he & others referred to himself as chief of staff he doesn't seem to have had a formal contract for that position.

Stop what you are doing and look at this lovely story. A photography student in the 80s took pictures of punks and mods on the street in Preston. He’s now tracked them down and photographed them again. The pictures and stories are really ❤️ www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

🧵It’s Day 100 of the Burnham premiership. Burnham has made a good first impression personally and lifted the Labour brand, with Labour up 7pts since May. There are longer-term challenges ahead, but Labour has enjoyed a sustained rise in support since July. What's driving it?

As in Hungary, the authoritarian regime in Serbia is being dismantled . “For years, we failed to fulfill our duty. We kept silent, turned a blind eye, reported events one-sidedly, and failed to ask the necessary questions. For that, we owe our viewers an apology,” news anchor Goran Eror said.

Removing import tariffs on more than 100 products, helping lower import costs on family favourites including baked beans, chocolate and gherkins, while also supporting farmers facing higher fertiliser bills and households that rely on kerosene heating oil.

Rolling out hundreds more Post Office drop boxes, bringing the total to 1,000, making it easier and more convenient for people to send and return parcels without having to queue at a Post Office counter. This comes alongside upgrades to 600 Post Office branches by the end of the financial year.

Extending parental pay to more than 150,000 additional parents per year, including self-employed dads and partners who have previously missed out, giving eligible parents two weeks of support currently worth up to £194 a week so they can spend more time with their child.

Ending the Carer’s Allowance cliff edge, so unpaid carers no longer lose their entire allowance simply for earning a penny over the Weekly Earnings Limit, equivalent to 16 hours of the National Living Wage. Instead, only £1 of support will taper away for every additional £1 earned.

My mission to end the rats in my neighbourhood has entered a new phase of death without the use of poison Regular outdoor rat traps are just not cutting it with anything but the youngest so I've moved on to an 11cm wide jaw trap sold as "for London rats" Today's victim weighed more than a small dog

Rats are neophobic, which means they don't like new things, so it took a week before they succumbed to the lure of only the crumbliest flakiest chocolate sitting in the pot waiting below the jaws of certain death One down, maybe 4 more to go. Better than poison + my ratter cat is now past his prime

And democracy doesn't stop after one "democratic exercise" either - not in 1975 when 17,378,581 people (67%) voted to Remain in the EEC, not in 1992, and not in 2016. It's a continuing process where people have the right to vote again and get a fresh outcome each time.

This went on for the rest of the full hour, at which point the BBC apologised for having to go to the weather and urged viewers to follow continuing live coverage on iPlayer. Forty-one minutes of unfiltered, unchallenged propaganda by a far right party with 8 MPs, now third in the polls. Discuss.

Alex Andreou@sturdyalex.bsky.social

BBC News just interrupted its coverage to go, live, to Nigel Farage - a man with no contitutional standing in our setup - responding to the budget - a document which nobody has seen yet. WHY

See Reform UK are barking about bringing back imperial measures. In 2022 Nigel Farage posted about the "Metric Martyrs", prosecuted for failing to use proper commercial weighing equipment that measured in metric units. At the time he had not made one mention of the Post Office Horizon IT scandal.

Jane@localnotail.bsky.social

perma-suited Nigel Farage is fond of lapel messaging in this manner however, in the weekend of Remembrance Day 2016, as he helped Donald Trump become president, for some reason, he did not wear a poppy for his appearances, or mention the Fallen all Trump (and Brexit), all week (Sunday: 13th Nov)
