you can't judge when bioware was really killed because the mismanagement at the higher level under EA has been so constant and pervasive since the acquisition at every stage that every game shipped at all was a herculean miracle

The guy who ran 3DO, the company that owned New World Computing (makers of the Might and Magic games) before it collapsed due to ??? business practice, was also a former EA guy. Do they just not like RPGs there?

People keep making this all about EA, when it's also clear that Bioware has had an extremely noxious working culture, and terrible management for nearly 2 decades, even at their peak popularity in the early 2010s. EA exacerbated that. Go back and read Schreir's early bombshells: this was foretold.

God I know the later years of bioware were bad both management and reputation wise and that the ME trilogy is a very conflicting thing for a lot of people but like I grew up with ME and it fucking sucks so bad to see this studio close down and not see the new mass effect no matter the quality

Like the teases liara with the new ME and I was like cannot wait one of the best romances in the trilogy so much so that it should have been the set romance throughout the trilogy the cast were the thing that carried those games and it's all gone now

Genuinely, a full Liara 1 to 3 romance route is one of the best plotlines of any game series, especially if your Shep actually navigates through the Paragon/Renegade gradient rather than staying hardline either way. Gives both you and Liara full arcs and shows how how a relationship evolves overtime

EA owned, in the mid-90s and the late 00s-early 2010s, the flagship blockbuster rpg developers of their time. origin and bioware were at their peak both squaresoft level cultural behemoths and EA pissed both away to nothing. what a waste.

you can make two of the most beloved crpgs of all time that still has modern relevance due to another sequel not made by you and go on to still define what a cinematic western rpg could be but your parent company has rocks for brains and decides that bleeding you out for years on end is better

BG2 is still the playbook for basically every crpg, in the same way ff7 was for 90s-00s jrpgs. Mass Effect has been ripped off a thousand times! How do you fuck that up???

I really don't know what the fuck Garriott was thinking making a deal with EA a second time after barely getting away. Like, what if Faust got his soul saved and then went back to check if Mephistopheles had another deal?

Playing Crusader No Remorse and trying not to think of the fact they were allowed to kill the studio behind a game like this with impunity

They should have both been making insane decisions on what is the next numbered sequel in their respective franchises while having a lot of other games under those IPs as spin-offs and it's cruel to everyone how it's panned out

ME3 was kind of a mess due to the multiplayer integration and the committee design and the original ending being what it was, but it still had some of the highest highs of the trilogy

You know the worst part? EA didn't even want Bioware. They wanted Pandemic Studios, and got Bioware from buying their parent company. EA era Bioware's success is inspite of EA, not because of it.

Every time bioware has a new flop this past decade and every time the journalism comes out about what was happening bts, each time it's slightly different but the recurring theme was always "somebody higher up had no interest in this game going well/actively sabotaged it"

Yeah, gaze upon the state of Mass Effect Andromeda and fathom that Dragon Age Veilguard is of practically NON-EUCLIDEAN quality given all the surrounding factors.
