Hi, I’m opening a batch of commissions! I paint mainly FFXIV-related work in a classical oil painting style, but I'm open to other subjects and genres. Contact me for pricing if you’re interested, either through DMs or the email link in my bio. Reskeets appreciated!

This reminds me of the time I was in a college linguistics class and the professor explained that Chinese uses different words for streams based on speed and not width, and an Engineering major chimed in with "that can't be true, the Chinese can build bridges too".

Everyone is talking about a best picture nomination for You Can See Everything, but there’s another category where a nomination would be infinitely funnier (and just as deserving)

I asked a dev to read some documentation and let me know if something is feasible and they reacted like I asked them to use an abacus to do some math.

A small piece of subtext in You Can See Everything that I really enjoyed was them hinting at the through line between original tech founders like Steve Jobs, to empty suits like Holmes, to the bitter, paranoid, and overtly political tech industry of modern-day Texas.

In a way her indignation is justified. Not because she's innocent, but because the world moved on from judging powerful people by the morals she was indicted with. She continues on in increasingly morbid forms (including this documentary) because both her and her crimes are obsolete.

Ever since I started jogging I've been getting mild tension headaches/hangovers whenever I'm *not* jogging. It's nice to have a reason to keep going to the gym but I wish it wasn't this.

A thing I've been trying is finishing with gradient maps set to multiply on certain materials, with the goal of flattening the contrast while adding a bit of color variety. I think it makes it more painterly and not as over-rendered. It looks better than overlays or filter adjustments, imo

Laughing thinking about how when I first dabbled in coding and was told that real devs don't just copy all their solutions off stackoverflow, but nowadays the complete opposite is true.

Everything about the new Street Fighter movie feels like a bunch of producers heard “Street Fighter is more popular than it was in its heyday due to livestreamers and social media”, and didn’t hear the second half of the sentence which is ”in Japan”

Just seeing all their American FGC influencer outreach and they definitely don't know we don't have it like that over here. The person they're looking for is Shishiro Botan, not Justin Wong.

It's one of the most important paintings in the Western art canon but nowadays it might be dismissed as slop because of how it exaggerates human proportions. It makes me wonder if strict adherence to accuracy will be a response to AI sorta like how abstraction was partially a response to photography

Caught up with C4 and really enjoying it despite not following any of the previous campaigns. Been wanting to do some DnD-adjacent art again and I've had this on my back burner for months.

was proud of myself for almost trophy-ing on today's draft and then realized I just drew my two-card combo on curve for 7 games (and lost miserably in the games where I didn't)

wow how did I only just now learn about Multires in Blender. I thought sculpting felt like shit because I was setting up my meshes wrong, turns out I just didn't know about the thing that made the tools actually work.

(This is probably true of most artists) My drawings only look good at 20% detail or 100% detail, and although the prudent thing is to make the 20% version look better—or atleast draw the 100% version faster—I've actually gone ahead and made my 100% even more time-consuming

I should be more disciplined about practicing gesture drawing or developing more varied tools for abstraction. I have to admit alot of my current style ends up just being brute force rendering instead of finding more interesting ways of solving problems.

Speaking of textures it was funny when the game kept cutting back and forth between her super detailed design and Alphinaud's PS3-lookin' face

formthehead@formthehead.bsky.social

I love all the different textures on her design

WIP I wanted to do a composition with the airship but I couldn't export it out of the game, so I went to ask the Meddle discord and it turns out there's an invalid texture on the ship. The dev said they'll push a fix for me and I feel bad because I already started on a composition without it...

Didn't do an underpainting for the goggles because I might do a paintover (the goggles are complicated and symmetrical), but I think I'll give an honest attempt with eyeballing first

There was a web novel I stopped reading a while back because the fan translation got shut down, so I was curious to catch up with almost 2 years' worth of chapters. Paid for the official translation and it's just completely unedited MTL. Even slop merchants need standards c'mon.

[Tataru rolls in and drops Zenos with a double-tap to the head] Alphinaud: By the Twelve! Tataru, when did you become a Machinist? Tataru [reloading]: What's a Machinist?

Tataru with a gun #FFXIV #FFXIVART

A while back I had an idea for a painting of Tataru in full tactical gear and a gun, getting ready to save Eorzea. But this week I realized that she — both literally and figuratively — only needed the gun.

You might say it’s not great for a digital artist to only do one drawing in a whole month, but I’ve already killed my inner project manager. And my inner algo optimizer. And my inner art teacher. And my inner poster. And my... Anyways there’s a lot of dead bodies in there.
