Please read this article on the massive weirdos who are largely running the massively powerful and big-money AI industry in the U.S. today.

This post is unavailable.

I genuinely feel bad for Eliezer Yudkowsky and his partner over the very real terror they seem to feel about AI killing us all - but these are not well people and they need therapy, not insanely influential advisory roles at the top of government and industry. time.com/6266923/ai-e...

“Yudkowsky is the person who connected Shane Legg and Demis Hassabis to Peter Thiel so that they could secure funding to start DeepMind, which is now Google's AI research division.” Yep, that’s the wacky sex cult AI doomer guy proving instrumental in Peter Thiel funding DeepMind.

verysane.aiAI Safety Is Mostly A Sex Cult In Berkeley, CaliforniaWe might some day have “AI Safety”, as a science or policy area, that is not primarily a sex cult in Berkeley, California, but it does not currently exist.

And once again, here’s OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in 2023, praising wacky AI sex cult blogger Eliezer Yudkowsky and speculating on if he deserves a Nobel Peace Prize:

Almost the entire US technology policy space has been taken over by rich funders and consultants who genuinely believe the below wackadoodle sci-fi AI scenario is extremely likely, and that preventing it is the most important thing we could be doing right now. www.verysane.ai/p/ai-safety-...

Adorable that this is the limits of their imagination because it's well beyond the limits of their basic education they doomsay over. AGI at this scale would know the above isn't possible because the physics don't map to reality. A circus of ignorance that catches its own tent on fire.

“robots scan the victims’ brains” yeah because the tech that would require autonomous robots who are able to upload human brains is sooooo totally a thing

“oh no the robot is gonna keep us as pets!!” = 1) hysterically not at all a thing within technical capability and 2) weirdly horny in a gross way?

I grew up on sci-fi, but have come to resent it because most people lack sufficient critical thinking & knowledge of physics & material sciences, therefore they fail to grasp that many of sci-fi’s beloved magical technologies aren’t inevitable or possible. I now call most sci-fi “Techno-Fantasy”.

What the hell is this. 1) this is explicitly a dystopia, not a “glorious future” 2) why would a hyper intelligence be as stupid as these fuckers and not realize that a brain scan is not sufficient to create a copy of a person 3) why would a machine kill everyone but still have an approval drive?

Eliezer Yudkowsky - who, again, is immensely influential among the leaders of big AI companies and the US tech policy ecosystem that his rich fans have all but taken over - seems to think the only way to stop the AI apocalypse is doing straight-up eugenics to make “smarter people.”

The immensely politically influential Eliezer Yudkowsky believes that nuclear war is better than letting AI get too smart - and hey, it’ll all work out for humanity if we make sure a small “reproductive population” survives the cleansing fire. Cool! Normal!

I can see a scenario where AI does cause a whole bunch of deaths, hundreds, thousands, hundreds of thousands DOGE ALREADY IS DOING THAT! Climate change, ALREADY DOING THAT! Does AI have risks, no doubt. Probably economic and societal, shitstorm coming, not a robot apocalypse.

From a strictly logical standpoint, this is stupid. If a Superintelligent AI is inevitable, then all this accomplishes is delaying its creation. If it is not inevitable, than this extreme measure is unnecessary.

Oh God, one of the 'only thing that matters is leaving the only habitable planet and living in space boxes on dead rocks, because sci-fi says so, so let's wreck Earth' dimwits!

evil-dumb is murder-suicide attaching love to hunger is like sewing your arm onto your leg - the story-sense fails Delight in love Disgust for harm A clear moral lens does moral math all day, taking emotional accountability for pragmatic (necessary?) harm to life loving money? is loving corpses

“This industry approaches regulation in this way because it has, at its core, a millenarian death cult that worships and fears AI, believes AI will end the world, feels compelled to create AI, and at least somewhat wants to destroy AI as an entire field.”

What if I told you that basically every American boy born since my invention considers it his highest calling to *be me,* and would do everything in his power to hasten the real life creation of the dystopian world required for my character to be relevant.

Treating a whole field as one psychology hides the internal disagreements. I would test institutions by incentives, claims, and actions, not infer motives from their existence. Is that too generous to the people running them?

Wow, it's so much worse than I realized. This article was horrifying. Like, the 'druggie rape cult is hosting summer camps for kids and now we're giving them billions of taxpayer $' horrifying. What the actual fuck?

Not the point but there's speculation he's wrong on that, that because we have tapped all the easily accessible energy (coal/oil near the surface) already, if civilization has to restart from square one we won't have the available energy to reach modern society.

I wonder what he'd say if someone suggested, instead of global nuclear armageddon, simply bolsheviking all the tech CEOs and their supporters. Because I suspect he'd consider that a stretch too far, which would raise some questions of who he thinks would be in that reproductive population.

I think the rationalist community pretty regularly forgets that the goal of development is not "reaching the stars", it is "human flourishing". A thing that helps you reach the stars at the expense of that is bad and should be discontinued

reaching the stars is probably ALWAYS at the expense of human flourishing. As no, I don't think we can flourish there, not to the degree we can on earth Of course I don't mean non-human discovery missions for the scientific knowledge. That's fine. I mean the colonization of other planets stuff

Knowing how literally everything Yudowsky thinks about anything comes from science fiction stories he read, am I off-base in assuming this one comes from The Most Unhinged/Racist Thing Heinlein Ever Wrote

Guys who have never had to survive anything ... very cool that they constantly fantasize about lots of people dying and society collapsing. Its so cute that they think they would matter, or be alive and not reduced to fertilizer before year 1 is over. Lol.

Sounds like someone watched Dr. Strangelove and didn’t realize the eponymous character’s suggestion at the end of the film was meant to cause horror in the viewer, not admiration.

That is hilarious coming from someone who makes the point (especially in HP&MoR), that death itself is the ultimate enemy and the goal should be to achieve our goals without killing anyone. Going from there to "eh, as long as we have a few hundred k with genetic differences left" is bizarre.

fuckhead left high school before someone could explain to him what a genetic bottleneck is and why Radiation is the worst of all the bad choices for causing that bottleneck

Since we want smarter people surely this means we need to invest into greater access to prenatal/neonatal care, early education, and ensuring everyone has access to a quality diet to ensure proper development right ...right?

Yudkowsky is definitely using English words in these two posts. Odd that his topic appears to be related to "intelligence".

Maybe I’m just trying to use rationality with my dumb idiot brain, but it seems like a much more efficient and effective way to prevent ai takeover is to eliminate the small group of people who are working on it.

AGI implements quantum-entangled deepest learning brane processing on a corpus of Ikea catalogs and reverse engineers wardrobes as portals. A semi-autonomous drone swarm thus gains entry to Narnia and quickly captures Aslan and while Divinity As A Service initially serves man the next phase...

So the grifter Ayn Randian "consultants" mixed The Stand, Terminator, The Matrix, I, Robot & some Culture novels together for rich, insecure men who resent their moms.

I like that the AI scanned human brains for Roko's Basalisk revival AFTER killing 99% of people in just one day and then DIDN'T use those mind scans on the cloned corgi men it created to give it head pats. This perfectly explains why it can't tell me if a seahorse emoji exists.

wow, every sentence is a level of "but how!? why?!" so bad that even if this were presented as fiction the shoddy world building would take me out of it

but somehow, several "smart" and well-funded people spent years putting this subpar sci-fi together *while believing this to be a serious prediction about the real world*

the big intellectual innovation these people made is that they don't need to consider any possibility that something other than their imagined future might happen instead or that we need to take those other possibilities into account when making decisions

Fun thing that we have now passed through the Dracula sucking all our blood (anti)social media phase and are moving on to the Frankenstein’s monster will destroy us one

The first sentence is hilarious and proves that their ideas all come from video games. “Tiling the prairies and icecaps” You cannot “tile” anything because you need huge amounts of infrastructure in place to support the things you want to build. This is abundantly clear nowadays.
