we could start the annual Bluesky Begrudgingly Samples Cheesecake Factory Posting Festival

Also, the D.C. Cheesecake Factory-to-National Media pipline is real, having produced me, Ashley Parker of the Atlantic and Lynsea Garrison of the NYT. Kids, go wait tables or sling drinks at a bar for a summer or a year. It's a great bit of life experience with transferable skills. Not even kidding.

Anyway, I can personally vouch for the fact that at least some members of the Obama family are familiar with and seemingly fans of the Cheesecake Factory.

My friend Nicolette was at the POS computer and I wandered up to say hi. She said "turn around." Behind me were Malia and Sasha Obama and their grandmother Marian Robinson and some USSS officers trying to look inconspicuous. That was not the first and only time they visited.

I actually have important contributions to the Cheesecake Factory discourse. My first job in Washington was actually as a Cheesecake Factory server and bartender. One day in 2009 or 2010 I wandered in for my shift a bit early...

now I am haunted by the question of “has President Barack Obama ever eaten at a Cheesecake Factory.” Tbh, I would bet he’s been forced to go at least a few times during his campaigns throughout the Heartland, but he would never go of his own volition.

Vexed.@queenattolia13.bsky.social

He'd never set foot in one, brah, so the diss was deliberate. He grew up in Hawaii, where homemade local dishes made in restaurants & cafes are beyond awesome, and the local bakeries make ambrosial desserts.

I (finally) watched the Mothman Prophecies, and I submit that no film has ever embodied the throbbing, dystopian essence of the year 2002 and its cinematography as much as that one did

I liked to draw dinosaurs eating each other in 3rd grade, and the school called my parents: my father pointed out to them that my drawings were 1. scientifically accurate and 2. they’d almost certainly NOT have been freaking out if I was AMAB. Anyway, this advice is terrible.

So the "advice" doled out in this column makes me INCREDIBLY fucking angry as a former kid who was repeatedly taken to task by teachers for "inappropriate" drawings, culminating in a 9th-grade suspension spurred by Columbine paranoia and residual Satanic Panic. Arionne here says that was JUSTIFIED.

I've said this before but the most trouble I ever got in at school was when i left a notebook full of doodles in the classroom of my uptight math teacher. They called my mom because I drew a goth girl with no pupils wearing a "TEIN" shirt, wanting an explanation of whether that was a gang symbol

I want this little rodent behind bars for the rest of his life.

NEW: The DOGE operative who gutted USAID -- firing thousands of employees and canceling lifesaving programs -- never actually signed the paperwork that's legally required for him to be employed by the agency.

Prof Dayal is right: If you think the damage of these four years to diplomatic relations is bad, any amnesty or failure to achieve sufficient accountability for what has occurred will compound that longterm harm to US foreign relations incalculably. There will be only one chance to get it right.

Holding the Trump admin accountable for its crimes can seem distant, but there are meaningful steps both US domestic opposition & the international community can take, including supporting the ICC, enabling international investigations into disappearances & civilian deaths, & refunding foreign aid

this is the best sales pitch for Olive Garden I’ve ever seen

Kaitlin Ruiz@kaitlinruiz.bsky.social

recently went to Olive Garden solely to dine upon their gnocchi soup, and the waiter was such a dead-ringer for Robert Irwin; it was wild. I mentioned this to him, at which point he put on an Australian accent and said things like "crikey! she's a big un!" (I cleared the breadsticks instantly.)

I emailed Patrick Healy, assistant managing editor for standards and trust at NYT, to ask why their story about a House report with new details of rape allegations against the President of the United States included neither those details, nor a single use of the word "rape." archive.is/1s9AM

This is like how I've never seen Titanic. I'm not actively avoiding watching it, but it comes up in conversation now and then and after a while it feels like part of my personality.

I’ve somehow never been to a Cheesecake Factory, and now I feel like I’ve got to keep it up for the sake of the bit.
