Even among people who use AI, nobody wants somebody else's slop. They like using AI to get out of doing work for other people. Use it for them instead of doing work, and they're not so happy.

Chinaโ€™s first AI-generated theatrical feature has flopped, earning just $181,000 in its first weekend. By contrast, the scrappy โ€˜Niu Laiโ€™ turned its crude animation into a viral attraction, grossing nearly $10 million a couple of months ago. www.cartoonbrew.com/box-office-r...

Just recieved a copy of my second translated reprint (โ€œGodmakerโ€) also with Science Fiction World in China! This one has an absolutely incredible illustration of a scene from the story, which the artist has captured really well.

Scab.

This post is unavailable.

Unpopular opinion: people who flush their medicine (expired or otherwise) down the drain/toilet should permanently lose access to indoor plumbing. Have fun jogging to the outhouse forever, you barbarian. (Also: men sending unsolicited dick pics should permanently lose cellphone access. Rotary โ™พ๏ธ)

๐ŸŽƒ Trick or treat! Weโ€™ve got some utility inspired tricks & treats up our sleeves. ๐Ÿ‘ป First up: a TRICK! Expired medicine may seem scary, but flushing it down the drain is a no-no. ๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ’Š Instead, drop it off at a medicine collection kiosk near you: https://www.sfenvironment.org/safe-medicine-disposal

1. Shaming works. 2. The folks behind that "AI" coup aren't merely sellouts, they're spineless sellouts at that. 3. This isn't over until every last person who had signed off on that charter permanently steps down. They've shown their true colours.

The Society of Authors has withdrawn from the ill-conceived concession to the dark side that was the "ethical GenAI" charter because of the mass and vocal outrage of authors. Publishers need to be made afraid of this level of anger too.

cool, cool

This is a terrifying thread about how much evil a single collaborator can do. He's not a mustache-twirling cackling villain, he's somebody who looks and acts perfectly ordinary otherwise. This is a real-life example of what Hannah Arendt wrote about in her "Banality of Evil."

Francesca D'Annunzio@francescadnunz.bsky.social

Early this year, I visited Ingram, a TX town of ~1,900, to check out a tip. The area was starting to recover from its worst flood in a century. But as Latino workers drove to jobsites to help rebuild, the tipster said, a cop in a black Dodge Charger kept stopping them ... ๐Ÿงต

Hear hear!! That was one of the most useful tips in the already useful guide by Chuck Palahniuk, "Consider This." Not merely backups, but also printing them out and keeping them in a safe place, just to make sure. (Something that'd be a real chore when I return to Montreal from my travels. ๐Ÿ˜…)

For all my Bradbury Challenge followers (๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿ‘‰), this was the story I wrote during week 5 โ€” wayyy back in February. :) bsky.app/profile/lily...

The Bradbury challenge, week 5: a good old-fashioned sci-fi noir yarn, weighing in at 2,600 words. ๐Ÿ”ซ๐Ÿฅธ An underappreciated subgenre, that. I did more drafting and polishing than usual - time to see if I can find a good home for that story. ๐Ÿ˜Œ #writing

WOW WHAT A GREAT DAY. SO BLESSED TO SEE THAT SUN COME UP AGAIN HECK YEAH

A really cool editor at Worldcon told me an open secret: 70% of story submitters do not follow the posted guidelines. That puts them at severe disadvantage or simply eliminates them outright. Be part of the top 30%, eh. :) (The irony, of course, is that the worst of them will skip reading this too)

We have been receiving submissions already for Tales from the Ruins 2, but the submissions window doesn't open until November. A quick glance at these submissions also tells us that the guidelines haven't been read in most cases. Please, do not waste our time and yours. Follow the guidelines.
