This is why the Luddites smashed machines. The factory owners decide what technology is to be used and how. They decide who is to benefit from technology and who suffers. That's how machines get smashed.

Remember when us phil-tech types said effective altruism was just utilitarianism taken to its worst possible extents? This is what we meant: Real harm for unquantifiable potential benefit. "…'we believe that the world should accept some bad things happening for the benefits of this technology….'"

I'm going to try to do this cleanly. Today's right wing governments are networked to each other. Those networks are well-documented. You can read about them in books. Following the elections in one node of that network is good practice for understanding the U.S. node.

I just think Matt's wrong about this. We're at a point in our technological development where a ton of problems spill over national borders--if Flavio Bolsonaro burns down the Amazon, that will flood houses in Miami.

I hear people saying this all the time. They point to 4 years of a centrists NDP government as the root of our issues. Nevermind the generations of austerity and corporate subsidies that have hollowed our social institutions.

Canadian In Alberta@canadianinalberta.bsky.social

For 51 of the last 55 yrs conservatives have been in power in Alberta That's 51 years of underfunding healthcare & education But according to conservatives, 4 years of NDP government destroyed Alberta The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over & over & expecting a different result

We need to organize ourselves and build new democratic institutions from the ground up if we want to have the people power that’s needed to reclaim the economy and our future — but that work starts with you taking action, no matter how small. [12/12] #ABLeg #ABPoli #CDNPoli

Being independent means having to think about a million things that a) are boring but important b) I am not good at because business is not my thing. And then trying to find time to write between all the business stuff. It sucks. I do it because the alternative seems worse but it sucks

There is absolutely no reason to believe anything Palantir says. It is extremely frustrating that all of this shit was predictable, and so many people warned against depending on US tech, and we still got here.

They are making up conspiracy theories to answer why people wanted to stay in Canada.

I want you to understand that most of these big game studios are still profitable, even Bioware. The problem is leveraged buyouts, which means taking out massive loans in order to buy someone else's company. It's like buying a luxury car you can't afford, then paying it off by selling it for parts.

We all end up paying the price for #orphanwells in #Alberta: 💰Rural municipalities lose out hundreds of millions on property taxes. 💰Landowners are left waiting years for cleanup of their own land. 💰Cleanup costs continue to get pushed onto all Albertan taxpayers.

I can't imagine being this proud of taking a stance of not fixing your mistakes. Republican voters have been brainwashed so thoroughly they can't even IMAGINE voting progressive. Instead they pout and demand attention, believing someone else is at fault.

This is what happens when young men do not have the moral and spiritual courage to just admit that they're dumb.
