Oh right. Intro post. WorkingBits builds things on the web, anything from very straightforward static sites on up to complex apps. We exist because there's vanishingly few places anymore where you can actually...build stuff for people?

AI proponents cling to the idea that the tech is going to enable boundless creativity, but I've seen what it enables; endless spam. It's enabled people without a single ounce of creativity in their bodies to make endless Balatro clones, genuinely no thoughts of their except Balatro but slop.

It always comes back to this for me; if AI was so good, such a disclosure would be a selling point. If AI was everything these slop jockeys said it was, they should be proud to let people know their game was AI made. But the proof is in the pudding, and they can't stand that people don't want it.

I can't believe he's still at it, it's been days

I genuinely think those who love video games for what they are and are searching for *somewhere* to call a spade, a spade in this weird era of AI slop, should start looking to @aftermath.site. I'll put it as succinctly as this: giving a shit is a superpower, and they do.

One of the miserable things here is that EA *is* choking. They’ll be dead or as good as before too long. Their only purpose now, saddled with debt and controlled by private equity, is to liquify any substance left into money, leaving only husks behind.

i was sad yesterday now i'm pissed because this fucking rules. EA, choke.

I’m old enough to mourn what Electronic Arts used to be, too. Watching that shambling…thing…wear its skin for the last couple decades has been a different kind of sorrow.

I played the shit out of BG 1&2, had the back of my head blown off by the reveal in KOTOR, and ate up Mass Effect and the first three DA games. I’m sad about the death of the entity, but the *people* are still out there and still making games

The companies are all in massive debt. The venture capitalists have all over leveraged themselves. Everything you see crowding your vision is their desperation.

Business Insider confirms it: Amazon has warehouses of GPUs that can’t be installed, and is buying them so far in advance that a supply chain team said they “didn’t have a clear forecasted path” to installing them. www.businessinsider.com/amazon-220-b...

Ed Zitron@edzitron.com

Free newsletter: I estimate that ~50% of AI chip sales - $200bn to $300bn+ - are sitting in warehouses, with NVIDIA selling hundreds of billions of GPUs years in advance. Data centers take way longer to build than hyperscalers are leading us to believe. www.wheresyoured.at/wherere-all-the-ai-chips/

Given that the person who had their game "replicated" is also an AI slopper, is lying about that, and the "replica" was on Steam before their game was: I feel ok using this as a jumping off point for discussing why I don't think this is anywhere near as much of an issue as people are worried about

Sos "Buy Lazy Kickers" Sosowski@sosowski.bsky.social

How do you even survive as an indie in the current landscape? This is insane.

Feels really great to see people waking up to the calamity that is CoreWeave, even if it is far too late to stop it from hurting the average investor conned into buying it

Ed Zitron@edzitron.com

Newsletter: We need to talk about CoreWeave, the first big IPO of the generative AI bubble, with a speculated $35bn valuation, burdened by ruinous debt, impossible-to-meet capacity obligations, and a data center partner that's never built any AI compute. www.wheresyoured.at/core-incompetency/

I really need more journalists to just ask (even if only themselves) “does it though?” when writing up some thing that generative AI models allegedly do. Like, try doing it? Or ask someone you know who can? Most of this shit falls over at the slightest attempt to do something other than the demo

This bill would abolish ICE, DHS, and CBP, transferring legitimate customs duties to other departments. It would sunset Section 219 of the INA close the Guantánamo Bay detention facility and shutter all immigration detention centers. You have my sword, milady.

Truthout@truthout.org

Rep. Delia C. Ramirez has introduced a bill that would abolish not just ICE, but the DHS altogether, repealing the 2002 law establishing the agency and replacing it with one focused on protecting civil and human rights.

Current discourse about AI “remakes” is still in the “we’ll be cooked in 3-5 years” mode. Like everything else involving fucking gen AI it’s always *about* to be impressive but somehow never actually gets there.

I am assuming that this is more of a Ringu sort of well and not The Well, which presumably has lots of email already and therefore contributes to the problem

I hope the well finds you, email

“‘No more hand-written code,’ a director told staff.” In a few years, this is going to produce the same kind of “well duh why would you say that?” anecdotes as judging performance by LOC written or bugs fixed.

Ha ha gross!

I've been way too tired to talk about the bullshit math papers but yeah Bruno did here You can't take any of this at their word at this point, a bunch of these are bullshit, and it takes so much effort to verify that some might be better ignored They're making a mockery of my fucking degree field

Bruno Dies@brunodias.dev

The actual math in this paper is over the heads of non-mathematicians but the core argument is pretty easy to follow: AI theorem-prover formalizations can't actually be trusted to faithfully be the same argument as the natural-language paper they come attached to arxiv.org/abs/2610.081...

Anyways, proofs aren't math problems. The point isn't to get a fucking answer and walk away like homework you phoned in in fucking high school algebra. The PROCESS is the fucking point. How that informs future work. Math is a chapel built by generations of minds standing on eachother's shoulders.
