Paywalls on court documents impede democracy. But instead of getting rid of PACER fees, the judiciary is implementing a 20% fee hike. free.law/2026/10/21/p...

What's striking to me are the rules of engagement and the methodology of action here, which more or less is predicated on burying liberal delusions about "debate" or the "marketplace of ideas". The rules were ultimately very simple: amplify your own message and suppress your opponent's.

I just want to name that people overcame this. Even against a stacked deck, the good fight is worth it. Win or lose, it's worth it. And sometimes the good guys win.
Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted

The big lesson is to treat marketing and mass communications like marketing and mass communications, with its own rules, and logic. Instead of pretending it is a philosophy or debate club.

People don’t understand why I keep noting that BlueSky is not a bubble, it is a counterpublic. It serves its own organizational function: you can see in realtime in January 2025, on multiple types of social media, shouting that an executive order is instruction to an agency. This one stuck.
I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

"are trans people fully human?" is a trivial question if you can't answer it correctly then you are absolutely a moral void, a stimulus-response amoeba who must be excluded from power at all costs and no, i am not at all troubled by the calculus of just how many people are moral voids here

Political appointees at the Department of Homeland Security wanted CISA, an agency that protects election systems, to acquire and hack a voting machine, which shocked staffers. “This goes against everything CISA represents,” a former official said.

This is where "it's just trans sports bans" leads you, Democrats supporting overtly genocidal policies that would kill tens of thousands of trans people. But at least we'll be marched into the camps by someone in blue, right?
Josh Turek of Iowa, Democrat, comes out with one of the worst anti-trans ads yet. Not only is it an anti-sports ad, it proposes a ban on federal funding for gender affirming care. That would hit all medicaid and medicare patients, and any ACA federally-subsidized plans as well. Horrific.

Seoul is giving a 50-year-old Han River bridge to pedestrians. By August 2027 it will have 22 viewing areas and two glass decks over the shipping lanes, and the city’s traffic modelling suggests that drivers detouring to the next bridge will barely slow down. buff.ly/ws3TdHO #ShareGoodNewsToo

That it'll fail because they lack sufficient consolidation and centralized control does not make it trivial that the president of the United States is trying to steal elections and produce an illegitimate sham Congress. It is open rebellion against the Constitution and morally tantamount to treason.

Democratic candidates doing anti-trans signaling is so baffling because even your voters who aren't naturally pro-trans are going to notice that all the people who are vocally *anti*-trans are also anti-Everything Someone Normal Who Votes Democrat Could Possibly Care About
found out that my mother in law decided she was aggressively pro trans rights literally by going, I don't know anything about this but everyone who is against trans rights is also against free school lunch, the issue I know and care a lot about, so this must be the correct way to feel about this

I certainly hope nobody makes the mistake of conducting business with this company in the future, or involving them in any processes.
these fucking guys, man. “surely there must have been some mistake” “nah bro we did that on purpose and our company culture is so wild this is a normal thing to say on the public Internet”
