If anything, install the RECAP plugin so that anything you pay to look at on PACER, it can be the last time anybody has to pay for it. I've relied so much on the RECAP archive and have in turn contributed many, many dockets to the cause 20-40 cents at a time.

The Thomson v. ROSS Intelligence opinion is now published, and it mostly does no harm. In particular, it doesnt rule on AI training in general or on the market dilution theory. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...
We're awaiting the full decision pending redactions by the parties, but it looks like ROSS lost their appeal of their case against Thomson Reuters. We and many others supported ROSS as amicus and are disappointed at this outcome: storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...
On Monday we and other legal tech orgs filed a brief in Thomson Reuters v. ROSS arguing that headnotes aren't copyrightable and that ROSS's use was fair. Here's our write up: free.law/2025/10/02/t...
And here's the full decision: www.courtlistener.com/docket/70622...
Today we completed our first end-to-end pipeline: - Scan case law book - Partition book into decision PDFs - Auto-redact headnotes etc - Review redactions - Extract using OCR ensemble - Label metadata - Convert to XML Easy-peasy.

This runs through the CourtListener's MCP server we launched earlier this year. If you haven't tried this yet, you should. Letting AI agents pull from real case law and filings instead of its own knowledge changes the game. wiki.free.law/c/courtliste...
Every CourtListener user has basic access to the MCP. To get more access, we have memberships for groups, academics, legal services orgs, or individuals: free.law/membership

AI tools are helping security researchers uncover software vulnerabilities at an unprecedented rate. We're proud of the security posture of CourtListener, but this week white hat researchers reported four vulnerabilities, which we have now fixed and reported below. 1/2 github.com/freelawproje...
All of these vulnerabilites are very old. They affectted our registration pipeline, tag APIs, visualization APIs, and RECAP Fetch API. We do not believe any of these vulnerabilities were abused, but please let us know if you believe you may be affected. 2/2 free.law/contact/
Don’t try to prompt inject a judge. It won’t end well.
First time I've seen a court issue sanctions for prompt injection in a brief. Pro se plaintiff tries prompt injection (here, white text in tiny font) because he thinks the judge will just use some LLM to read the papers and write a ruling. Judge sees through the ruse.
Rep. Schiff has an opt-ed in the LA Times today calling for a variety of court reforms. Among them is bringing the Freedom of Information Act to the Judiciary, a cause we've championed for many years. Good to see it moving towards mainstream: www.latimes.com/opinion/stor...
