Someone asked me if there is a page that collects all the weird bullshit "AI" products currently being pushed to the market. That page exists. It's called linkedin dot com. But nobody there knows that they are in the asylum.

Idk if me reposting could help you, I have a decent number of followers but only a fraction of what I post gets responses soo... Only know a handful of other people in UK so not much else I can do.

Broke as fuck, and on the verge of becoming homeless, unless I can find £1000, by tomorrow. Looks like friends, family, and loan sharks can't help me, at this point, short of some miracle happening...

I'm not a very smart person but here's my big prediction for how AI is going to affect creative endeavors: we are going to start seeing a bunch of AI shit trotted out and it is going to be VISCERALLY unpleasant. People are going to bounce off of it like wile e coyote and a brick wall

Oh, they take your credit card so I’m sure they’ll be very liberal to charge $500 tho I guess if you used a prepaid Visa it might be tougher

I write a lot about misinformation in science. When our leading society journal perpetuates it, that's a big problem because other media outlets follow their lead. Here's NPR: https://www.npr.org/2023/05/14/1176062276/fake-studies-in-academic-journals-may-be-more-common-than-previously-thought

npr.orgFake studies in academic journals may be more common than previously thoughtNPR's Ayesha Rascoe speaks with neuropsychologist Bernhard Sabel about his study estimating that more medical papers may be made up or plagiarized than previously thought.

So there's a humiliatingly poor news story in Science (yes, the AAAS publication) this week entitled "Fake scientific papers are alarmingly common". https://www.science.org/content/article/fake-scientific-papers-are-alarmingly-common

Thinking that the future of "Elon-free", less-toxic, higher-quality SNSes is going to be interesting. I'm sure we'll end up with "VHS, vs. BetaMax", but having more options, and players validates the idea of decentralised communications platforms, so let the race begin!

Guess what? You can rebuild the Bluesky app without writing much code because we just open sourced the code for this app. Why are we doing this? Because we are philosophically open-source... We believe sharing = more people building WITH us.

alright folks, the app code is now public https://github.com/bluesky-social/social-app

nontechnical version: this is a big deal + huge step for transparency! most companies keep their code private/proprietary, but bc ours is public, you can literally see every implementation (how we make buttons blue, how mute lists work, etc) & what we're working on at any given moment

I’ve mostly been testing SkyBridge with Ivory but I am happy to see other clients like Elk seem to kinda work also

This is a great resource; but also, these accounts aren’t “just” annoying content farms — they’re the foundation on which systemic platform manipulation is built. Eventually, they’re resold and repurposed. There’s no good solution except banning them from the network.

I started to put together a list of content scraper accounts I've found. I recommend you actually block them tho (not just subscribe to the mute list). If you know of others, let me know!

As a Nigerian toddler in poverty, fell and scratched her eye badly. Got infected. Grandpa walked to a free clinic 16+ miles away. Dr said "Lucky you brought her! She would've lost the eye!" Mom said, "I almost lost an eye just because I'm poor?! This system sucks!" She's an Opthalmic surgeon now.
