We've reached nine million dollars 😳️ Since yesterday (!), the amount paid to OSS maintainers by @opensourcepledge.com members has risen by $739,137 to a total of $9,160,672. This is thanks to a contribution from HeroDevs, who are worth celebrating for all they do for software supply chain security 🎉️
We just gave $1,000,000 to Open Source maintainers at @sentry.io, up from $750K last year! 🎉️ And this month the @opensourcepledge.com turns 2. Its 37 member companies have now paid $8,421,535 to the people who build the software we all rely on. Read on to find out where the money went.
I'm proud to help support maintainers in this way, especially after @mirandaheath.website's report on burnout in Open Source showed us that many maintainers are going through a difficult time. Thank you to every maintainer. We appreciate your work! 💜️
Want to support the ecosystems you rely on, too? Your company should join the @opensourcepledge.com! Paying maintainers is easy. There are details in the Sentry blog post, and you can always DM me if you have questions about how to go about it.

The @stewardshiplab.org carried out an analysis enabling us to pay maintainers of otherwise-invisible phantom dependencies that existing tools miss. 👻️ And we're sponsoring underfunded foundations maintaining package registry infrastructure we all rely on: $60k to @python.org, $35k to @packagist.com…
…and more sponsorships to @thephpf.bsky.social, @rubycentral.org, @djangoproject.com, @opensource.org, @rustfoundation.org, @geomys.org, @numfocus.bsky.social. 🎉️

$495k is being distributed by thanks.dev to the maintainers of hundreds of packages Sentry uses. $100k went to globally critical packages via ecosyste.ms Funds. The @syntax.fm team hand-picked another $100k. And I'm personally proudest of how we're supporting software supply chain security…

Around 70% of open source maintainers work alone or in small teams, and most are unpaid. @mirandaheath.website, Director and psychologist at the @stewardshiplab.org on the four drivers of burnout and what AI does to each. @viteconf.org 2026, 15 oct (TODAY) 2pm UTC. Free and online. viteconf.org

Got to wonder where all this ends. What will OSS look like in a year?
We are updating our AI Policy to reduce maintenance stress. All pull requests are now automatically closed, unless they are created by maintainers or users from an approved list of contributors. The PR is not lost. If the team decides the change is worth pursuing, we will reopen it.

Maintainers spend countless hours keeping the open source projects we all rely on secure. Too often, that work is unpaid. Socket is proud to join @openjsf.org's new Security Stewardship Program to help fund the researchers and maintainers protecting Node.js. socket.dev/blog/openjs-...

With help from the amazing @mirandaheath.website, the 2026 State of Devs survey results are now available! 2026.stateofdevs.com/en-US/ This already took a ton of work, and I feel like I've barely scratched the surface of what the dataset could teach us.
