An interesting wrinkle in tonight's PHP CVE disclosure: The maintainer for (one of) the main PHP repos seems to be currently offline and not updating the repository?

ℹ️ I'm going offline for a few days, so don't expect any updates in the repository.

I wonder if after today DLP policies and vulnerability scanners will begin to flag anything with the number 4 in it as leaked key-material?

truly a wild time to be alive when the cryptography world is split between those worried about quantum computers and those whose private key is “4”

Some random thoughts from a pretty great PAX Aus weekend: - There was less intense crowd this year, more evenly spread across all three days, less of the packed show floor at peak times - TCG and Miniatures much more prominent this year, more space, more interest

- Bit disappointed to see people hustling enforcers to try and get into event areas early or onto already capped lines - Magpie room was a great addition especially for D&D groups - Conspicuous lack of Xbox

- AI (and how much it suuuuucks) was much more a topic of casual conversation this year

Example #267 of how a social media handle is not an asset or property you can own but rather a little digital feifdom holding that can be taken away at any time.

Meta, the company behind Facebook and Instagram, has kicked Muse off their longtime social media handles. Yesterday the company launched a new AI product, which is also called Muse, and now the band has been relegated to “@museband.” stereogum.com/2510793/meta...

X (it's not Twitter any more and hasn't been in years) is the red state diner of the internet: the place lazy journalists go to get a sense of what they think "real" americans believe based on a ridiculously reductive and wrong definition of what it is to be a real american.

Twitter was wrong about Platner, wrong about the Odyssey, wrong about pretty much everything, but you know, it really reflects the mood of the people, you know?

You used to be able to google the time of the sunset, and Google would give you the exact time right on top every single time. Thankfully, with artificial intelligence, you can now ask Google what time the sun will set and it will conveniently tell you "I don't know."

This slop era is going to end so quickly. Churning out empty bullshit that nobody wants is only profitable until the algorithm exploit is patched. This was true in the SEO era, this was true in the You-Won't-Believe-What-Happened-Next Facebook optimization era, it will be true in the slop era too.

“Podcast sloplords” are flooding the zone with AI-generated podcasts. By one count, almost 40% of new podcasts are written by AI chatbots and presented by “AI voice synthesizers [that] can sound eerily humanlike”. [futurism.com]

The amount of professionals taking that IPv8 draft spec seriously on LinkedIn is hilarious (and embarrassing).

To (almost) come back full circle, the thought-leaders™️ over on LinkedIn have picked up on this and seemingly running with it.

This whole "IPv8" shenanigans is a microcosm of the AI-fueled and accelerated slop that's making much of the internet meaningless to use. What was once basic content-farming is now factory-fuelled, industrial-grade never-ending slop.

For comparison, the JCPOA ('Iran Deal') payment that everyone in MAGA excoriates was $1.7bn. The $2m-per-ship toll regime on the Strait would generate at normal traffic something like $40bn *each year* for Iran (120 ships per day at $2m per split 50/50 with Oman).
