Hot take: every productivity app is wrong about one thing. They trust you to set honest deadlines. You have ADHD. Your brain will negotiate any deadline you give it. We don’t trust you. That’s the whole app. (But we do like you, and want to help.)

ADHD time exists in two states: 1. Now 2 Not now “Due in three weeks” is Not Now until it becomes Now Now Oh Shit Now We built an app to work around this. Not to fix it, just to work with it.

The best supporting character in “Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere” was *breakfast*. Everything happened over breakfast. Fuck them other meals!

Amazon is helping fund a $300 million build of a ballroom for the White House. Independent bookstores are donating to food banks and organizations that help with food insecurity. They are not the same.

Checked in for an @americanair.bsky.social flight and in order to get the mobile boarding passes you need a unique email address for each passenger. It errors out if you try to send them all to the same place. So my 7 and 9 year old are supposed to have their own emails and phones? #BadUX

Thread!

Okay, so at the request of the lovely @trance.bsky.social , I'm going to tell a story about what happens when a shitty person is "just joking", and then discovers there are consequences. AKA That Time Kat Started An Antifascist Hallway Riot In The Third Grade. Grab your beverage of choice.

When we unionized a few years ago, a lot of peanut gallery types on social media wanted to tell me it would be the end of Wired. Hope it’s now clear (thanks mostly to our insanely talented and hardworking politics team) that it does not work that way. Unions are good.

It is impossible to mount resistance from Substack. Everyone presently publishing there is going to need to move off. This will take time, but it’s the truth. Don’t give them your money.

we could still do this! it's entirely possible! just gotta give the middle finger to the platforms that ruined it first.

god the internet used to be *good* you'd clicky-click your way around and wander from webcomic sites to hyper-specific forums to fanfiction aggregators to blogs dedicated to sparkly GIFs with quotes from someone's favourite book and "social media" was Livejournal blogs and website guest books

The original version of this from the ‘70s is about $2500 if you can find one. Behringer just dropped a clone for $69 and it fuckin’ RIPS. The dry/wet blend does wonders and even after only an hour or so playing with it I can already safely say it’s my #2 bass fuzz.

New (to me) bass arrived yesterday! 1979 Kramer DMZ4001. This line from Kramer had aluminum necks and “ebonol” fingerboards, which is a resin similar to what bowling balls are made of. Nut seems to be pinching a little with .110s on it so might have to take it to my local guy for some adjustments.

I do not enjoy Christmas. I don’t hate it, I’m not one of those people. I just dead-eye through it & try to make it fun for my family. Mostly it just feels like juggling a lot of other people’s needs and expectations in a way that isn’t dissimilar from every other day of the year, only more $$.
