I created a "BlueSky for Abdul" donation campaign with a goal of $10,000 for Abdul. If you hate the Islamophobic campaign directed against him, and appreciate how he is fighting against Trump's fascism, please donate what you can.
Despite the Islamophobic moral panic in the media right now, Abdul El-Sayed has moved up to number 3 in ActBlue fundraising this week right behind Ossoff and Talarico. I think this media cycle may actually be negatively polarizing people toward him.
Fascism can be defeated it has been defeated before and it will be defeated again we will unmake their creations with our own hands and burn them to ash in the wind
Moreover, ICE must be destroyed
I am old enough to remember when politicians felt the need to hide behind euphemism and obfuscation. As frustrating as these obfuscations were I hope it is becoming clear to all that they were an advance, historically speaking
RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Nobel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."
A part of this not mentioned is that Texas used to let kids transition. I volunteered at a camp for trans kids in Houston when I was in college (pre transition I know I know how did I not know I was trans). Guess where part of that camp was? Texas Children’s. That’s how much we lost
its insane how not many people are talking about how republicans with the help of several moderate democrats are building out the largest abusive medical conversion therapy operation in modern american history
im not sorry but who the fuck is sitting on these grand juries that they are not like "oh this is bull shit"? i think anyone who votes for an indictment or conviction in any of these political cases has morally failed
PS: I fully read the article and this isn't an indicment but a "federal information" which cannot continue to be charged unless there is an indictment. so trump just had it done by fiat and not even a grand jury which makes it more obviously corrupt! but my point still stands about other charges!
Sometimes I read published journals or books and I am like damn if I made the same claim with the same evidence (or lack thereof) and tried to publish it, reviewer #2 would personally come to my house and kill me.
“They have dragged people from their houses, and prevented the media from getting into the district to cover up what is happening.
“Netanyahu and his gang are using Palestinian land to displace Palestinian people, closing the city, closing the mosque, to achieve their political goals.”
I'm going to try to do this cleanly.
Today's right wing governments are networked to each other. Those networks are well-documented. You can read about them in books. Following the elections in one node of that network is good practice for understanding the U.S. node.
I just think Matt's wrong about this. We're at a point in our technological development where a ton of problems spill over national borders--if Flavio Bolsonaro burns down the Amazon, that will flood houses in Miami.
There is an international, well-connected network of fascists promoting far-right candidates in elections (and coups) across the world. The guy who owns the site Yglesias posted this on is one of their leaders.
Be careful of people advocating for their opponents to disarm!

Another data point for the “Yglesias brain is cooked” hypothesis. Imagine thinking that it doesn’t matter for American democracy if other countries are taken over by autocratic regimes. We just saw the result when Orban lost power and a bunch of conservative influencers had their income vaporized.

The only election overturned because of fraud in my life time was a 2022 congressional election in NC because the republicans literally took blank ballots and filled them out for the republican candidate
Trump: “Anybody reporting Voter Fraud in the past Elections, or the upcoming 2026 Midterm Election, will be paid $1,000,000 upon the arrest and conviction of those that created the Fraud!”
"In Rouen, a video...shows far-right activists charging protesters, some of whom are beaten on the ground. According to Libération, the police then intervened against several people who had just been attacked while some of the assailants stayed behind the police cordon"

the contrast between seeing US democrats fall over themselves to embrace idiot transphobia all year and tonight seeing footage of the president embracing my (trans) congresswoman, Erika Hilton, at the election night party
Everyone thought Lula was cooked, hopeless. Then he bought a phone and started posting and now he's gonna get a 4th term. The lesson is to never stop posting.
Flávio Bolsonaro refuses to concede after losing Brazil's presidential runoff to Lula.
"It is impossible to acknowledge the election results. We will ask for the elections to be annulled."
These anti-trans Dems are saying "biological males" should be banned from girls sports because they know exactly how bad it sounds if they say "transgender girls" should be banned from girls sports.
They're using "biological males" framing as a sort of self-justification and self-soothing.
In his acceptance speech, Lula says he will work to regulate digital platforms in Brazil. “Digital crimes must be dealt with like real-life crimes.” This comes after Meta directly interfered with the Brazilian elections, favouring Flávio Bolsonaro.

pretty clear evidence that republicans in the US losing any election going forward are going to always beg for a coup if they lose. lots of people will have to go to jail
So Lula not only won, he basically doubled his margin of victory from 2022. I'm guessing he won thanks to voters who didn't love him, but were terrified to see Flavio given near-dictatorial power.
It's going to be a messy next chapter for Brazil, but at least it'll be a fight, not a curb-stomping.
And on AI: “I don’t want to depend on Chinese nor American AI. I want to create a Brazilian intelligence.” He also mentioned having Brazilian data centres dealing with our intelligence.
“We will no longer be a peripheral country. We want to be central.”

The president is demanding that Republican Senate candidates stand next to him at rallies where he talks about asses (mostly one man’s) and brags about making gas prices higher.
If his candidates lose, it’s because the elections were rigged.
El-Sayed: This is like the 3rd campaign stop where Donald Trump can't help but mention somebody's ass. When I get to DC, I'm just gonna make sure that I never let him see mine…
It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

Congrats to Lula on overcoming Mark Zuckerberg and Donald Trump to defeat Hospital Pervert Jr., even as his opposition literally blocked off roads and turned off bus service during election day.
Fascists are scary but they are always, 100% of the time, ultimately gigantic fucking losers.
Now let’s learn from Brazil. The Right sabotaged the elections, interfered with transportation, used AI to makeup shit. They still lost. People power. Power to the people. #brasil
Lula winning is great for the planet, great for Brazil, and great for people who aren't revanchist assholes everywhere in the world, but let's not forget that it's also going to make some of the worst people on Earth extremely sad and mad. We should enjoy that, as a little treat.
