There is truly nothing you could do to make fun of the NYT covering the Obama Cheesecake Factory quip instead of Trump being accused of rape. It’s completely beyond parody.

Once any post you make on here gets more than ~25 reposts your notifications tab gets stacked floor to ceiling with stale riffs from @DiaperOtter69 and @InflationRaccoon and all manner of incredibly niche perverts. It's better than dealing with @kekhitler1488 on the other site but still not ideal.

I think one of the more important skills you can have in 2026 is knowing when someone is performatively using progressive coded language to argue for something that is fundementally not progressive because they can claim a perceived moral high ground.

my nuclear-grade AI hot take that’s sure to get me cancelled until kingdom come is that refusing to use AI at all is rapidly becoming an extremely privileged lifestyle choice that feels social justice-y while actually being the complete opposite

The vibes-based "I know it when I see it" system of umpires determining if a swing was successfully checked or not is actually fine — a time-tested and effective solution to an annoying problem — and anyone trying to write a new rule to make it "objective" is a sicko who should not be trusted.

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

Finally watching Backrooms (2026) with the wife. She's a horror enthusiast, I'm a tedious snob, will report back

I've been calling Bluesky "the three-cueing victim website" for awhile now, but since Season 2 of Sold a Story started, seeing some of the reactions here have chilled me with the realization that many of those victims now hold teaching licenses 😬

(Seeing discourse about a show discussing a method for instructing young children in basic literacy and math skills) "I can't believe this is how Emily Hanford wants me to teach poetry to high schoolers!" Not beating the allegations, sorry

Leftists like Radley are unwilling to say they are Democrats because they want to be able to order us Democrats around over what we should do. Leftists like Radley should highlight the creeps who call themselves Republicans. Democrats like me are already doing that.

"Those people are all liars who don't even understand what 'median' means," say a bunch of dudes who clearly don't understand it well enough to know why nearly half of the audience will not be receptive to their horseshit.

Delighted to learn that, not only is my wish apparently being granted, but that the context is "a second season of Sold A Story," which will surely generate some of the most rancid, fact-free Bluesky discourse in an already godawful year.

Thomas Jerome@thomasjerome.com

I can't wait until we get a version of "Sold A Story" about innovations in the math instruction textbook & professional development industry.

I see there's some Bluesky discourse aimed at the host of Sold A Story, and what's funny is how it lines up neatly with the content of Sold A Story, in that the complaint against Hanford is "this makes teaching less personally fulfilling for teachers and less fun for students."

Huh. I wonder if there's some longform journalism about how publishers and authors made billions of dollars through flattering the sensibilities of educators by selling them a story, one about how teaching kids to read is just a matter of creatively putting good vibes into the world.
