I haven't posted for a while as I've been growing a new outdoor publication focusing on independent reporting and analysis of global adventure, expeditions, and exploration. I won't continue posting here, so do take a look and sign up below for free to keep in touch. theedgeofthemap.substack.com

Three years ago, my dad said that all fish are the same shape. Out of spite, I decided to draw all 478 families of bony fish listed in Nelson 2016. There's still some stuff I need to edit and some fish I want to redraw but, after 985 days, I finished my big dumb fish project last night.

The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead: www.ispot.tv/ad/SoDi/micr...

I know money is tight, but please consider picking one or two creators, whose work brings you joy or helps you, and give them each 5 quid a month. Feel free to rotate after a while if you want to support more. It's worth doing to break big algorithm's control over our creators, at least a bit.

I feel it's important to share this again. The internet is so hostile toward creators nowadays. I've seen people have their work stolen, and no longer feel comfortable sharing their creations. We can do better. Let's be supportive to the people that make this a better place! 💞

Another older Halloween comic. I lost the old file so I recently had to redraw it, and I had a lot of fun revisiting this.

The more I think about this comment, the more revealing it becomes about the world-view of these tech-bro billionaires. E.g. here technology is a linear progression. Each upgrade better than the last. Get on board quickly or lose your advantage. Obvs. the real world doesn't work that way.

There should be more research and discussion about how video games have contributed to shaping an extremely simplified perception of of politics and society for a generation that grew up with gaming and meme culture and now finds themselves in positions of immense power.

Which, btw. is not only interesting for looking at the future, but also for understanding how we ended up at rampant capitalism, and how that path is often being presented as unavoidable in games that seem to represent an accurate picture of history.

Don't let billionaires convince you slop is the future. They're used to managing & directing, not making things themselves. Of course they can't see the difference. They don't understand your love for the craft. Keep making personal, beautiful games. You've got my support 💖

In the Renaissance people theorized, since the Aeneid is great, if you wrote poems made only of words & phrases from the Aeneid rearranged they should be great too, since a great source regurgitated should yield greatness. They produced NOTHING we still read. Thinking about that a lot lately.
