"She wouldn't let me leave until I said something nice about myself. It was the hardest thing I've ever done." "Don't you have code on mars?" "I said what I said"

I've yet to see anyone talking about the extremely overt queer themes in Control Resonant, especially with the siblings backstory, and I wonder if it's spoiler shyness or if it just went over everyone's heads.

Oh yeah, inject that Phantasy Star Online shit right into my veins.

I don’t know how people could say that programming and art are completely different disciplines when both workflows involve going ‘This will never work, I’m a failure’, changing one thing, then thinking you might be the smartest person alive

ladies, is your programming - a field dominated by rich white men - driven by fashion trends - practiced as a demonstration of status - funded by vanity projects for failsons - filled with queers trying and failing to break even that's art, sorry

Maybe someone in my circle could help...

If someone can explain to me why, after literal months of troubleshooting, the AnimatedGIF library for the ESP32 won’t work with my ESP32-s3-zero, despite giving me zero error messages, I will give you my entire life, cuz I’m honestly ready to off myself over this

Like this has just kicked up the dust cloud of milquetoast "ai is bad for art but fine for coding" takes and it's infuriating as someone who literally sits at the fucking intersection of those things.

Man, this LLM reverse engineering stuff is fucking depressing, even by LLM standards.

it might just be my age, or my predisposition to cynicism, or being around on the web since around 1996-1997 or so, but yeah, i dunno, the internet hasn't felt like a library for at least two decades, but i get the sentiment that things didn't feel so overtly commercial

Reading about this today has totally pissed me off. It turns out I don't hate AI enough.

There was a redditor who used 'AI' to reverse engineer Beads firmware, and when he finished, then he asked Emilie for "permission" to release it. She open sourced it hours later.

Variations of this comment/argument are literally everywhere on reddit. Part of me wants to think it's bots astroturfing, but most of me is just exhausted.

So the next time someone who is not an expert in the field concerned loses their mind over some supposedly revolutionary finding…bear this in mind. Whether this has to do with AI or not, it’s just a good rule of thumb. Don’t be someone else’s hype man if you don’t understand what you’re hyping.

This one of a myriad of reasons I *really* don't trust vibecoded self-hosted software, or really just *new* self-hosted software, but especially software that the creator doesn't understand and can't maintain.

Realizing we might need a word instead of vaporware for software written by LLM users that will overpromise and underdeliver spectacularly. At this point any time I see “open source alternative to [commercial app]” there’s a 80/20 chance of it being a bloated vibecoded app lol.

Every now and then I throw some rocks at the latest AI shit just to know my enemy. This "agentic" shit is wild. Less than useless with open weight models. Barely cobbled together harnesses. The amount of tokens, hardware, and energy it takes to puke out useless slop is astounding.

This is also maybe the first time where I thought I might be holding it wrong, especially for the local LLM use case. Qwen3.8 + pi/omp was just... shit. I asked it to *plan* a simple refactor and it churned and churned and eventually got stuck in a loop where it didn't realize it finished lmao.

nevermind the fact that the result was ass. I'd have gotten more utility out of running a GPU benchmark and letting my cat sit on my computer for the warmth.

Unless we just see entirely new hardware approaches with orders of magnitude levels of improvement, there's no way in hell the unsubsidized cost of this isn't fucking ridiculous.

I can't stop thinking how wrong the tech bros have understood creativity and creators. Or even just having hobbies. #erliart

I'm about 75% done with Control Resonant and while I knew going in that it wasn't going to give much closure on some of my pet plot threads, I am really excited to see where they're going with the ones they did decide to focus on.

That said I'm missing Ahti & the Oceanview & the Old Gods & I like Dylan but god damn I miss Jesse.

Not to be petty but god this reminded me of years ago when I slightly tweaked like two colors on dartpad to improve contrast and readability and it became a Whole Fucking Thing. Literal bike shedding, just more misogynistic. Good luck, OP. Stay on brand.

This is honestly the funniest thing I've ever said.

teachers these days grew up on indie sleaze. you think your child is at school practicing algebra when in fact they're learning about the "teaches of peaches"

back when i worked in a flight search engine, almost two decades ago, we regularly had problems showing correct prices for tickets it turns out that the architect had implemented "child price = adult * constant" and had the same constant across all flights and airlines but no one had noticed

This is how it's done, folks.
