Darkness. Death. Mysterious powers. Spirits. What we fear most is the unknown. But Halloween is a chance to explore these topics with curiousity and tenderness, instead of fear. Well, maybe a *little* bit of fear is healthy too.

i really miss waffle js! is anyone in the bay area interested in co-hosting a similar monthly js/web creative meetup with me?

I had a fun idea recently after watching witch hat atelier of a pencil that could blow bubbles, just to make art a little more fun. Here is my prototype #maker #art #whimsy

when i've wrestled with a story enough, i get most plot and character elements to the point that they feel natural—of course that happens, or of course their personality is that way. so when i re-read my writing, i sometimes forget how much struggle it took to get those elements to feel effortless

and i think that's why when i re-read my previous writing when in the middle of struggling with my current writing, my brain's response is "how did we do that? it doesn't make sense?"

I wanted this animation to make someone feel a little better, even if just for a moment. But looking at it now, I realize that the message means something to me too. I guess I needed that little star as well. ✨ #pixelart #animation #1bit

reaching the middle part of short story writing where i don't know how to make it work, i don't know how i made my post short stories work, i don't know if i'll ever be able to write a good short story ever again. everything is confusing and discouraging and the only way is through

aw i'm glad everyone is enjoying my browser icon fanart (hand-vectored browser icons printed onto edible paper and stuck onto cookies so that i could serve literal browser cookies at the weird web october kickoff!)

Got some browser cookies

i just found out that... someone made an ai chat bot of a character from a short story that i wrote? while flattered that they liked that character enough to want to talk to them, this is the worst kind of praise 😭

i feel sooo inspired by all the websites people are making for weird web october! you can check them out here: weirdweboctober.website/browse.html thanks to @jzplusplus.com for putting it together! and for co-hosting a kickoff event with me today!

for two months, I've been flying drones over Flock cameras to situation them in space and geography; I even got my commercial drone license in order to do it. I'd like to share this project with you all: it's called Records Of Enemy Surveillance: recordsofenemysurveillance.com

happening this upcoming sunday!! 🩵

even if you can’t make the event, you can participate in the challenge remotely! sometimes it feels like everything on the internet is ads, slop, and doomscrolling. but things like this remind me that we can decide what we want the internet to be and we can build it. 🩵

for the past few years @jzplusplus has been running an october daily challenge called weird web october, for making fun and silly websites on the internet. making fun and silly websites is dear to my heart: it was how i started learning how to program after all.

this is the last weekend of my art show with @shirleywu.studio! we used ceramics, beads, and data from the Japan Meteorological Agency to capture the dates of sakura blooms and ginkgo and maple leaf color changes over the last seven decades. 🌸🍁🍃 luma.com/calendar/cal...

a thing that really stresses me out: when you talk to someone about a mistake they made, you have to brace yourself bc most likely they're going to be defensive and lash out at you bc that's easier than sitting with the discomfort that they've done something wrong 🫠

it's so hard to run a small business in the age of enshittification. products come back from the manufacturer with quality issues. work done on the shop is done incorrectly the first time. even if i'm not paying for it to be redone (i often am) i'm paying with my time and mental energy

to try to summarize the exhibit in 300 chars: we use ceramics and beads to visualize 7 decades of cherry blossom bloom dates and ginkgo and maple color change dates from Japan's Meteorological Association and how they have shifted due to climate change
