hello new entities that have recently followed me or are about to. i think? a lot of u followed me elsewhere b4, but for those that didn't, heads up: i do not tend to separate work-appropriate and less-work-appropriate stuff into separate accounts.

lmao someone needs to tell emudhra that going "oh yeah, well nobody else caught it later" and "technically, we have several more days to produce this document that we are obligated to have already had on hand" don't actually make u look good. especially if u send someone lawyer-sounding to say it

"his Jewish identity was not entirely hidden — it surfaced in scattered notices buried in the newspaper record... " (He was called the "Hebrew Hurler" in one headline, a "Spanish Jew" in another, bc Sephardi dad.) This was never a secret to be discovered, just racism that nobody cared until now.

Signing off this week by finally processing all the emotions I've been feeling since Wednesday. It's been nearly a decade since Andromeda, and after years of uncertainty as the BioWare was jerked around by EA, I finally have to grieve the series that made me who I am today.

between destiny and bioware it's been a rough year for "the end of games the played a defining role in my life"

apparently hot take: it is far more important for the internet archive, government services, and other critical pieces of public infrastructure & the commons to continue to function than people to feel 100% morally pure in their consumption. there's certainly a space for moral stances, but...

starting from a pt of "this thing is ontologically evil" won't give u a useful framework for picking ur battles & just makes u look like an asshole demanding that volunteers burn more time so u don't feel icky. i don't even like using llms, but i do think uve gotta engage w/ the world realistically.

I just really don't think most ppl understand what being on call for something like this is like. it sucks. it really really sucks. it eats ur day, it eats ur plans, it runs ur body at high stress, and worst case it destroys years of work or ruins hundreds of thousands of ppl's days (or more!)

furthermore: bsky.app/profile/beat... i don't really think u get to complain about the tools folks use to fix this kinda thing until u've had ur day/night/morning/afternoon/night-again ruined by being on a sirt for a zero day

the Internet Archive thing is an example of the fascinating trend recently where people consuming products they’re not paying for seem to believe they also have the right to dictate how much human labor is spent producing them.

there's reasonable places to fight llms! but those are where they're causing measurable harm (screwing over artists, flooding the web with trash, burdening oss maintainers with nonsense prs, using polluting power sources, etc). fight there!

... "backporting a critical patch to an unmaintained-but-core-piece-of-infrastructure before serious damage is done" is not one of them.

bioware's games defined part of my childhood. nwn was the first game i ever fell in love with. i _still_ play it sometimes. not to mention kotor introducing me to my favorite part of star wars, the time mass effect's writing literally made me cry, or the hours spent on da:o.

frustrated at all the devs losing their jobs, and sad that this is the final end for such a talented studio (that got repeatedly screwed over by ea)

it turns out (pun half intended) it is extremely satisfying with a wheel to have a lap where ur just really locked in and beat ur target lap time by a whole 2 seconds

apparently hot take: the smell of bo is more tolerable than the smell of strong body spray. at least bo doesn't give me an allergic reaction and a headache

I have an 1100sq ft house that I pay $13,000+ in property taxes on every year, which is bonkers. if that burden was being shared equally, I wouldn’t have a problem with it, but unfortunately, it is not.

this more or less already happened in California due to Prop 13 in the late 70s and now boomers like Ray Warner pay effectively nothing in property taxes but people under 40 pay $10k-25k per year. every time a boomer says this, they’re trying to rob you.

“I’m old. I’ve paid my home off,” said Ray Warner, a 72-year-old Akron resident. “Why would I pay property tax?” Across the country, homeowners are asking the same question and revolting against property taxes at a scale not seen in a half century.

oh, to own a kern (and have the resources to run it :-P)
