GitHub just finished ripping styled-components out of github.com. Result: 55% less time to server-render a page, 25% faster component init. CSS-in-JS makes you pay for styles twice: collecting them on the server, running JS on the client. Static CSS is *always* more efficient. Ship CSS.

This will never stop blowing my mind. A 12-year sequence of real telescope images of a star 133 lightyears away. And around it, four planets slowly orbiting. Four real exoplanets, each more massive than Jupiter, imaged as they move around their host star.

Hi @stevecain.dev 🩷 I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind reposting my classroom wishlist? Every bit of visibility helps so much with getting my students the supplies they need for a great year! No pressure at all, and thank you so much! 🍎✨

Food companies wanted deregulation. Now there are dozens of recalls across the country. Mining companies wanted deregulation. Now the black lung rate is at a 45-year high. Financial companies wanted deregulation. Now financial losses to fraud are the highest on record. Noticing a pattern?

I've lost count of how many times per day I say: "that's too much", "that looks ridiculous" and "not that guy again" when I'm on socials. Bluesky does seem to be an exception most of the time.

Do not send your bot into my replies uninvited, I WILL waste your token budget. (Random Python scripts are good for this, on their end this would just keep generating past the post character limit.)

Many times the most useful instincts come from repeated failures, some of which are so old you don't remember them anymore, but they've entered your subconscious and have permeated your thought patterns.

Elected officials should be subject to annual and bi-annual performance reviews from voters. If they truly "worked for us", then this wouldn't be hard to implement. Unfortunately that language is performative, at best.

Tough when Fox News is doing this

I turn off haptics and then just manually control silent mode using the side button. That way I still get notifications when I need them or manually check them, but yes - things are much calmer now.

When I disabled all the notifications on my smart phone, I felt such an enormous sense of relief. It took me a while to figure out why. "Sodium is nearly 50 times cheaper than lithium and can even be harvested from seawater, making it a much more sustainable option for large-scale energy storage”

Previously, I posted that Na-ion batteries were likely to reach Li-ion battery energy density faster due to the prior advances and experience from Lithium work. Well, that’s appears to be the case. 🧪🔌💡☀️💨💧🔋 www.uh.edu/news-events/...

It's kinda telling in the #dotnet community when one of the most used tools/frameworks, is supported by just 40. It's clear that there's a lack of people taking supply chain risks seriously.

Farewell to try .NET a way to run code right in docs that allowed me to introduce a new set of developers and PMs to various security challenges and problems over 10 years. It evolved from running lots of containers in weird isolation setups, all the way through to WASM.
