❌🎨 Not much UI work, mostly behind the scenes details like parsers, rendering, Node.js CLIs, web servers etc.
I keep seeing people mentioning how ai-generated code lets you spend more time thinking about what the app should do, but I think there’s a need to remember that there are large groups of engineers whose role hasn’t been redefined to include that level of control and trust.

Die taz hat die digitale Transformation ohne Stellenabbau geschafft, konnte sogar die weiterhin unter Tarif liegenden Gehälter deutlich erhöhen und strebt das auch in den nächsten Jahren an.
I'm enjoying AI and find it useful, but the one thing that bugs me is that every! single! conversation! in my life is now about AI. Business calls? AI. Meeting friends? AI. Waking up in the middle of the night in a city I don't recognize, lying in a pool of my own vomit next to a dead goat? AI
Switchboard 0.0.18 is out 📱
Remote: follow your Claude Code sessions from your phone. Allow or deny what Claude asks, answer its questions, read along, and start a new session. Encrypted end-to-end.
Plus a catch-up briefing when a session finishes.

We finally have definite guidance on how to name a service well in German.
I wrote it over the summer, and it went live in the #ServiceStandard handbook this week.
We still see a ridiculous amount of acronyms and animal names, so I had to write it.

One of my favourites of recent years is ‘BZSt IBAN+‘. That are 2 acronyms in a row in an app’s name.
The literal translation would be: ‘Federal Tax Office International Bank Account Number plus’.
😞
A plain-language name following the guidance would be ‘Share bank details with the tax office’.
What I like about this is how direct it is: someone sees a problem and decides to build a different model.
NYC is opening five city-backed grocery stores with everything 30% cheaper for everyone.
It’s such a simple idea. Which somehow makes it feel quite radical. Average shoppers save $1,000/year
it seems we caught the orange wave, which took me by surprise a bit. i didn't think anyone really cared about frameworks any more! warms the cockles news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4992...

I'm at OpenAI's DevDay event in San Francisco today - as I have for the past three DevDay events, I'm running a live blog where I'll be posting updates during the keynote, which starts in five minutes simonwillison.net/2026/Sep/29/...
Berlin voted on 20 Sept, and navigator.berlin now maps it Kiez by Kiez. In 2023 the CDU led the party vote in 96 of 143 Kieze. Now 39. Die Linke leads in 73, up from 4. In 97 Kieze the strongest party changed.
See where, down to your polling district: navigator.berlin/berlin-wahlen. 23 elections since 2011, postal votes included (40.8% this time). 2026 figures still provisional.
Delta is now in public beta. It’s a multiplayer environment for coding with agents and reviewing what they build, with every code change linked to the conversation that produced it.
Anyone can download it today on macOS, Linux, and Windows: delta.dev/download
imho one of the best articles about our profession right now - no matter if you agree with the assumptions or not seldo.com/posts/we-are...
Well done, @seldo.com, thanks for writing this piece.
Ordered a new camera.
That means I also need a new domain and a new server and a new portfolio website with complicated upload automations so that I can switch to flickr after a month.
“I would have written a shorter letter, but I did not have the time.” (Blaise Pascal).
@terriblesoftware.org explains that the time “saved” by a developer who used AI to make a decision and write code isn’t saved at all. It was just transferred to the next person, who now has even more review time.
