Lula’s win is the first good news for the planet in a while! I bet it shaves a tenth of a degree off how hot our earth eventually gets, which will save millions of lives Thank you Brazil!

Told Claude my symptoms; it suggested an implausible-sounding diagnosis and sent me to urgent care. (Don't worry, I'm fine.) Urgent care doc examined me and thought the diagnosis was preposterous; prescribed some meds and sent me to a specialist. Specialist immediately confirmed Claude's diagnosis.

So now I have to complete a course of antibiotics I don't need, and throw away other medication I paid for, because a human with years of training and experience - who performed a physical examination - underperformed the next token predictor.

✨ My new library gpuix-svelte is out! Build native desktop apps for macOS, Windows and Linux using Svelte and gpui, a Rust-powered graphics engine. Excited to see what you build! #svelte #native gpuix-svelte.stanislav.garden

gpuix-svelte.stanislav.gardengpuix-svelte: Build native desktop apps with SvelteA Svelte renderer for native desktop apps on macOS, Windows and Linux. GPUI, the UI framework behind the Zed editor, draws them, with no DOM or webview.

interesting framework that matches my own experience both of coding in general and agentic coding specifically. i don't know if its predictions are accurate, or if 'decoherence collapse' is inevitable, but as a person who unfortunately has to use software, it does feel like software is decohering

Maevyn@maevyn.codes

My thoughts on the current state of AI driven software development, why I'm no longer concerned about a runaway intelligence explosion, and what I think is a far worse outcome we could be walking into maevyn.codes/decoherence

I’m pleased to see soft navigations count towards LCP. This was an argument I made when I worked on Google Chrome because single page apps can provide much faster UX. Let’s say goodbye to the outdated nonsense metaphors that JS is smog or a traffic jam. It never made sense — now we have the data.

ran the staten island half marathon yesterday. last race before the big one on november 1. felt pretty good — goal was to run at marathon pace rather than do a PR — but the prospect of doing it twice in a row is... daunting main takeaway: you should ride the staten island ferry before sunrise

saw Behemoth! at the new york film festival and wondering if there's anything tony gilroy can't do. fucking brilliant

PSA: universal basic income / guaranteed minimum income is a form of systemic relief, not systemic change. The former makes room for the latter, but there’s no theory of change in UBI, it’s just a patch fix to avert violent collapse. The steady erosion of agency continues until we OWN STUFF again.

This short story (by the "there is no anti-memetics division" guy) is fantastic and horrifying and you should all read it

Andrey Sitnik@en.sitnik.es

If you’re also fascinated by what people are doing with the fly connectome (and wondering what the fly thinks about all this) read “Lena,” by @qntm.org a very short story written like a Wikipedia article about the near future that may be waiting for us. qntm.org/mmacevedo

this is a fascinating (and sobering) read

George Monbiot@georgemonbiot.bsky.social

I want to emphasise, because I don't think anyone in government has ever mentioned it in public, that this isn't just about shortfalls and supply glitches. The food system is highly vulnerable to the kind of collapse that almost toppled the financial system in 2008. www.monbiot.com/2023/03/09/t...

The more I think about it the more it seems the Discourse is missing an essential ingredient. We must bring the context that Machines Work For Us, We Don't Work For Machines. This is the core leftist argument that is least clearly articulated, but that all else flows from. Solutions start there.

Anil Dash@anildash.com

The dialogue around LLMs is kind of broken both in terms of critique and advocacy. For critique, we need to focus on how we attack fascist tech power consistently — LLMs are only one part of that; merely saying "AI bad" has simply ended up with a lot of people using AI quietly while feeling shame...

"Content creator" spamming blog posts on X about topics I do find interesting but can't get myself to read because of the so-obvious AI slop. Framework authors discussing about trade-offs with "here's what my AI said in response to your AI". Something broke inside me today.

Tucked away in this article is an appeal to the AI skeptics to PLEASE stop writing off stories like this OpenAI accidental exploit of Hugging Face as a dishonest marketing trick Frontier models can find and exploit vulnerabilities now, it helps nobody to pretend that they can't!
