Amazed and relieved at the degree to which the coalition have fumbled this election campaign. Hopefully Albanese can land the plane

Just a legal historian here reminding everyone that “high crimes and misdemeanors” do not need to be felonies. They can include political abuses and stupidity, like, hypothetically, destroying the economy and wiping out people’s savings in 3 days.

Right now there are a lot of new eyes on Signal, and not all of them are familiar with secure messaging and its nuances. Which means there’s misinfo flying around that might drive people away from Signal and private communications. 1/

If it’s a choice between good AI and privacy on my phone, I choose privacy

The Siri that was promised back in 2011 never quite materialized. Now the big upgrade promised as part of Apple Intelligence is delayed “indefinitely.” Why can't Apple get Siri right?

It was literally the perfect American war. Mountains of cash for the military-industrial complex, far away, and no American lives on the line

Military aid to Ukraine has always been a bargain for the U.S. We degraded Russia’s armed forces and replaced our own stockpiles with brand new weapons, all while brave Ukrainians— not Americans—fought the Russians off. Halting that aid is not only morally repulsive, it’s plain stupid.

FFS. If you don’t like Copilot then just don’t use it. There’s plenty of other features in Word that you don’t use. It’s not that hard. This performative outrage over AI features being added to software is such a pointless waste of energy

Get what everyone’s got between their legs locked down, and everything else should just fall into place

So after promising to focus on safety, they’ve gotten right down to work… on gender terminology?

It is impossible to prevent users with legitimate access to data from revealing it to others. If they can see it they screenshot it, write it down, or even remember it with their brains and tell others about it…

One time some fresh-faced analyst asked how we turn off screenshots in Windows to prevent data exfiltration. Oh buddy.

Received a letter from POTUS today purporting to remove me as Commissioner and Chair of the FEC. There's a legal way to replace FEC commissioners-this isn't it. I've been so fortunate to serve the American people and stir up some good trouble along the way. That's not changing anytime soon.

I spoke to a talented junior scientist who just got a good faculty job offer in the US and they told me “well I wouldn’t move to 1930s Germany either” so that’s how that’s going

Of course it won’t actually happen until Trump has been in office for a week, at which point he will promptly take all the credit

US-led mediators have sent the final draft of a ceasefire proposal to Israel and Hamas, with people familiar with the matter saying this was the closest both sides have been to ending the conflict. www.ft.com/content/ebc5...

Utterly incomprehensible nonsense from Peter Thiel. “In hindsight, the internet had already begun our liberation from the DISC prison upon the prison death of financier and child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in 2019.”

The new administration’s revelations need not justify vengeance — reconstruction can go hand in hand with reconciliation. But for reconciliation to take place, there must first be truth, writes technology entrepreneur and investor Peter Thiel www.ft.com/content/a46c...

I understand the disappointment. He should’ve been sentenced with real consequences. That said, I consider this to have been a masterstroke by Judge Merchan 🧵

He knew that a fine or community service would’ve been immediately appealed by Trump, and very possibly overturned by an appeals court on the grounds that the sentence interferes with his duties as president.

This way there’s no sentence, and fewer grounds to appeal. Any appeal would be as if he tried to have a conviction from ten years ago overturned on the grounds that he’s president. The felony conviction stands. Trump is and forever will be a convicted felon.

I use this all the time

🌠 Did you know, Gmail makes it easy to spawn infinite unique variants of your email address? Let’s say your email is zhangwei@gmail.com. When signing up for Netflix, you can specify your email as "zhangwei+netflix@gmail.com". You’ll still receive all emails sent to that address!

Yup. The language is machine code. The usage is generating machine code with languages that make it easy to screw up and deference null pointer etc.
