I swear for 2 or 3 posts I thought this thread was fully a metaphor I was completely unable to understand about that guy on here earlier who was big mad that he didn't get enough bsky points or whatever.

This post is unavailable.

I saw this video of a Vietnam vet in the fur coat yelling at ICE and thought to myself, "this is missing something," before I realized, "Ah, of course, the Ether instrumental. It's so obvious."

OK, right here you're found the problem and please sit with this: emotions are running very high. emotional intelligence is needed in this moment in addition to logic. democrats are failing the emotional intelligence test right now and people are mad about it.

Seeing a concerning number of people thinking that having the Minnesota cops investigate the murder is somehow different than having the feds investigate it, as if they aren't on the same team.

Even if you *could* "fix" the nazi platform — WHY WOULD YOU BUILD ECONOMIC VALUE FOR A WHITE SUPREMACIST. I swear people are goddamn fools. "Tell your progressive friends to go buy a Tesla so that other Tesla drivers might like us better?" Money is power. Don't give Musk power. Read a goddamn book.

Boo!-per Lund@cooperlund.online

You can’t “fix” X, The Everything App by going back and posting there because the owner has this thumb on the scale of the algorithm to promote the worst ideas and people. It’s not a viable solution, you have to let it go.

Jay, you all owe an explanation of how it came to be that the exact list of users blamed by The Federalist were banned even if they did not break the ToS, and were not unsuspended until more than a day later.

It sucks that social media has ruined the possibility of honest discourse. Any discussions of eg LLMs immediately turns in to "I am right. You are an AI dudebro. Be gone." rather than trying to engage in a conversation. And I understand why it is this way, it is a totally understandable reaction...

There is a consistent pattern where people who are quite negative on the technology on many fronts find that adopting any position that is not uniformly negative provokes hostility that seems somewhat unwarranted, and I think this is not good.

...to the way social media is used. But it fucking sucks that the possibility of nuanced discussion has been completely obliterated. I do not like the way LLMs are being used right now. But I also think training an LLM on eg *only* what I have written, either code or prose, is worth...

Some people want comedians to run for office b/c they are unapologetic about being leftists (/left-ish). Everything is awful and at least they are not afraid to say it. People are desperate for a party that is not full of mealy mouthed losers that trip all over themselves running to the right.

I see the Washington Post is platforming an op-ed by Krisi Noem, because apparently they're still pissed they missed their opportunity to publish Goebbels in the original German.

It's illegal for the president to bomb Iran. It's. is. ill. egal. Not legally allowed to. What's more, he has to ask Congress!! Have you ever heard of a little thing called the Constitution? If we say it enough it will make a difference so just. please. try to say it as much as you can.

Hey, is everything getting a lot worse really quickly lately (in the last 2 weeks) or is it because I did the stupid thing and start reading bsky again, after a few weeks of better self control?

if youre a huge dumb racist youre like theyll dilute my culture but your dumbass ~~culture~~ is spending all its energy trying to delete pronoun words from email signuatures so sorry buddy you are an idiot and your culture is primarily useless garbage and the good parts are mostly from diasporas

Today is the last day of the fundraiser at work and we're short of our match by ~$23,000. It's so frustrating to see these software companies, who built their businesses in the backs of free software, throw millions at the inauguration just to kiss the ring.

We're using tailscale at work (well, technically headscale, because we only use F/OSS) and it really is incredible. I was helping someone set it up yesterday and it's like magic compared to every other VPN (proprietary or F/OSS) that I've ever used. I don't know how else to describe it.

Someone should consider if the Metafilter moderation process would work here. $5 to sign up would be enough to hire a full time mod team. Instead we get the same old bullshit on a different site.

Took me a bit but I've found the framing to put into words a way to express to the people fretting about the death of the UHC CEO why we just aren't heeding their admonishment: The social contract stipulates that all life is sacred, and Brian Thompson violated it. But it's more than that.

I've seen a few folks around here not understanding infosec/opsec as well as they think they do. Telling people about the tools you're using to communicate to securely isn't the self own you think it is.

the fundamental demand of republicans is that donald trump is to be immune from any legal consequences. he is to be immune, and if the legal system does not treat him as immune, it is corrupt.
