This should be understood as being an example of the emerging moral panic in the media around kids cutting off their parents.

Meta took down the No Kings instagram; TikTok banned the Musk documentary account for supposedly violating its political posting policies. A reminder that platforms are owned by the wealthiest of people, control the means of media distribution, & put their thumbs on the democracy scale as they wish

How many actions has Trump taken in office this term would not have been undertaken had the Supreme Court not given the president broad immunity in Trump v US? Certainly many. Most?

"Why would a spy agency be openly pro-queer" can only be asked by someone with nearly zero familiarity with the history of espionage

I don't think most Americans understand yet what a global laggard the USA is turning into here. Media instead told us that electric vehicles were a fad that didn't work.

Nepal passed 5% battery electric vehicle share in August 2021 and is at 75%. The U.S. passed 5% in October 2022 and is at 6%.

Their scheme is to cheat and steal the election from us and then enslave us — take away our freedoms and make us work for them.

I've been immersed in research on Reconstruction in Lousiana and it's a very difficult truth to absorb that the white terrorist movement in the South was among the most successful terrorist movements in global history. Took 10 years but it won a total & complete victory through murder and atrocity.

BAIER: The president says 'SI.' Are you into SI or AI? BEZOS: I do like SI, because 'artificial' is not a very flattering thing. Like, nobody wants an artificial sweetener, artificial flavoring.

dennis hastert died. he was a pedophile. he was the republican speaker of the house. neither the media nor democrats ever talk about it.

You can't get anyone in political media to say it plainly, but GOP strategy for several decades now has been built around the fact that its core goals/policies are *wildly unpopular*. Everything depends on a) polluting the information environment, b) cementing unfair structural advantages, & c) $$$.

Sean Casten@seancasten.bsky.social

"If House Republicans are going to pull off an upset in November, they say it would come down to the party’s massive cash advantage and its aggressive gerrymandering push." Eg, not on policies or the will of a democratic electorate. www.cnn.com/2026/10/03/p...

Reactionary backlash because the Indian tech support guy can afford a house in the burbs while the white perpetual fuck up who got kicked out of the army for a heroin addiction cannot, the war of the unemployable on the employed continues

America today is a country where regulators won't allow private companies to air interviews of the opposition on TV, but declare that taxpayer funded propaganda is fine.

I know people instinctively recoil at monocausal explanations and want important trends to have sufficiently weighty causes, but “We built a novel social environment that rewards anger and lurid pessimism and moved 95% of political discourse into it” is a pretty good explanation for a lot of stuff

Anyways, this is genuinely the funniest chart in the world because it shows Jill Stein's twitter use spikes every four years and only during years where there's a federal election so if she's breaking her silence now *someone* is panicking

An individual in Canada used ChatGPT for eight months to plan one of the country’s worst mass shootings. Yet, if you listen to politicians and media, the real threat of AI is a fantastical scenario where it might wipe out humans in ten years. They need to stop getting fooled by tech deceivers.

disconnect.blogThe media has the AI threat all wrongGenerative AI is harming people today. We don’t need to waste time fantasizing about science fictional scenarios.

Nothing that is being built here had any engineering work put into it and it has to be filled with bugs from every world spy agency. The next admin is going to **have** to tear this thing down because it will be unsafe to be inside it from both a structural eng and infosec pov
