Remember, this all started with Kevin Falcon kicking John Rustad out of the B.C. Liberals for retweeting climate science denialism

a sad takeaway here is that even if no one likes their MLA enough to vote for them — an incumbent coming in fifth place is pretty incredible! — it's still hard to motivate constituents to remove them. overall, we have a very disengaged electorate.

Dallas Brodie, who mocked the recall petition against her for only getting 3,663 signatures this summer, earned 805 votes in last night's election — placing last with less than 5% of her own riding, with her party getting 1.5% province-wide. thewalrus.ca/bc-snap-elec...

personally I think this is both funny & sad. she was voted in on the strength of the BC Conservative brand, and her embarrassing loss is at least as much about the loss of that brand recognition next to her name on the ballot, rather than her actual values and statements as a politician.

The Conservatives will end the night fairly close to the 900,000 or so votes they got in 2024. The NDP will go from just under 950,000 votes in 2024 to less than 700,000 this time. Turnout was down — but how much of it was demotivated 2017-2024 NDP voters who stayed home is a massive question.

huge victory for DULF — also a great day to support @defactomedia.ca which has excellent coverage of this case

i'm in BC Supreme Court waiting to hear the ruling from Justice Catherine Murray, who is making findings: a non-medicalized safe supply program is desperately needed, the DULF compassion club didn't cause any harm, and there wasn't any licit supply for DULF to access

the number of shitty PR emails I've gotten recently that are using Orange Shirt Day as a hook for things that have nothing to do with residential school survivors or history is appalling. even worse now than it was four years ago, when I wrote this: indiginews.com/first-person...

indiginews.comOrange Shirt Day is not about buying orange shirts - IndiginewsCorporations are trying to turn reconciliation into a transaction — we need to disentangle its meaning from the act of shopping

in advance of the National Day of Truth & Reconciliation I spoke to Kimberly Murray & Connie Walker about their efforts to raise awareness about this looming destruction, which survivors may not even know is happening next year. read it today at @thenarwhal.ca:

This is a good example of what @ntusikov.bsky.social and I have been warning about for years: US tech companies are uniquely susceptible to extra-legal US government pressure (Google isn’t compelled to change Lake Ontario’s name.) Because of this, they represent a direct threat to Canadian autonomy.
